Multi-Award-Winning music producer, mix engineer, and artist with 200+ placements in film and TV. When you hire me, you get the experience of a professional producer/writer/musician that's been in the industry for 20+ years. I promise that you can always expect a product that reflects my expertise.
With every project I am a part of, I believe in challenging the mainstream market and setting a new standard. I believe in thinking differently. The way I challenge the mainstream market is by producing or writing a song for you that connects deeply with you and your fanbase. I achieve that by taking a "personalized experience" approach to production and songwriting. Meaning, when we work together, I would love to get to know you and what your current experiences are. I will then apply pieces of your reality in your song, making the record much more believable because you believe what you are singing.
I play guitar (acoustic and electric), Piano, Bass guitar, Cajon, Sing, and play synth. All of which I can add to your production and is included in the final price.
I mix ALL genres of music. One of my specialties is making your drums hit hard while sitting perfectly in the mix leaving the right space for your vocals to shine through.
Feel free to check out my music. All of the records on the SoundCloud link are produced, written, mixed, all instruments played, and the vocalist on every song songs is me. All done in my studio that I will be using for your production.
.
My pricing reflects my skill level but, I can be reasonably flexible.
I truly look forward to hearing from you and working with you.

Interview with Drake Murphy
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am most proud of the EP I released in 2020 with Mickey Shiloh entitled "Enjoy The Heartache 1" That entire EP "Enjoy The Heartache 1" was created in one evening. She asked for some guitar licks, I sent them, and 30 minutes later she sent a full song back. We did that a few more times that evening. The next day, we released the project to the world. I absolutely loved everything about that project, especially the creation process.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently working on releasing a new personal project entitled, "The Adventures Of An Earth Cookie." I am releasing the title track on Feb 4th, 2022.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I would recommend Mickey Shiloh any day of the week for songwriting. I have worked extensively with her and every time, it's nothing short of extraordinary. You can hear the records we did together on any of the streaming sites.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I grew up thinking that analog is the one and only way. With that said, the things that we can do in the digital space are astounding. So, I have to side with both. I'm a hybrid guy.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise that you will get 100% of my skillset and talent. I also promise that I will be attentive, professional, timely, and respectful.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love that I have the ability and freedom to create something that has never existed before. No matter where I am in the world, I have that freedom.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The question I get most is, "do I record in my own studio?" The answer to that is yes, I do record in my own studio. All of the records you hear on my SoundCloud link and the example songs here have all been recorded in my studio.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception about what I do is the confusion with music production and beatmaking. I do make beats but first and foremost, I am a music producer. So that means that you can expect me to be with you for the duration of the creation of the song.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask that you be serious about your craft, be professional, and be respectful. All of which you can expect from me.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't get too caught up with "knowing exactly what you want." We will get a better understanding of the vision on our initial consultation call.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Top 5, here we go. 1. Furman power supply. - Gotta have clean power! 2. MY Macbook Pro - My computer is decked out with TENS OF THOUSANDS of $$ in top-notch plugins. I need them all. 3. My SSL2+. - It fits in my bag so I can have that SSL clarity and thickness wherever I am. 4. My guitars. - I have a carrying case that allows me to travel with an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar. So I am counting that as one. 5. My Slate Digital microphone. - That mic gives me over $30,000 in mic options. So yeah... that is coming with me.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Believe it or not, I "produced and recorded" my first song when I was 5 years old. It wasn't a hit but that was my start. My father had a studio in the house and to prevent me from destroying his equipment, he taught me how to use it. From there, I got my first shot at a major placement at 15 with Jive Records. Ever since then, I have been in the music industry. So without telling you my age, that gives me 20+ years of experience.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as "eclectacity." I'm sure that isn't a real word but, my style is inspired by a wide range of musicians, producers, and songwriters. From Weather Report to Frank Ocean... From Townes Van Zandt to Nas and Hitboy, I bring that inspiration to every record I create.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Kendrick Lamar because he epitomizes greatness, consistently. I love the way he tells a story with each song and, I can tell that he loves to go outside of the box in a way that is accepted by his fans. I feel like I would learn so much by working with. Also, I feel like I would have the freedom to experiment with new sounds and styles.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Stop overthinking it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on music that requires live guitar and tells a story. Among all of the instruments I play, the guitar is my favorite.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is delivering a quality product in record time. I achieve this by what I like to call "record foresight." That is the ability to hear the song in my head fully before I even start the session. That cuts down on delivery time drastically.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a new and fresh perspective to the song, as well as 20+ years of experience in multiple genres. I encourage my clients to step outside of the box with me to do what has yet to be done. So if you are a trendsetter, I am the perfect producer for you.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical process always starts out with a zoom meeting to discuss the desired direction of the record as well as getting to know you and your perspective so that I can help bring it to life. After we are in agreement on the project, I get started on the production. I will send samples throughout the whole process to make sure we are on the same page, ensuring a final product that you will love. As far as my writing clients, we start out the same way on zoom. I have written the full song on zoom with clients but I prefer to go in the booth alone so that I may have the space to write the record. After I have my ideas out, I send the rough to you. If we agree on it, I move forward. Again ensuring a lovely final product. With my mixing clients, we hop on a quick call to discuss direction. Afterward, I get to work and send the first draft of the mix for approval. I include 2 major revisions in the price.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: While I have access to major studios, I prefer to use my setup. I have everything that is necessary to create and complete a product. From high-end guitars to multiple microphones, and SSL's new 2+ interface for that 4k input signal that is diamond clear, yet thick sound.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I would say my top 5 musical influences are John Mayer, Pharell, Timbalan, Kendrick Lamar, and Mike Dean.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work I do for my clients is production.
