His career has taken him behind the scenes with some of the music industry's most celebrated artists, including Smokey Robinson, Gino Vannelli, Rickie Lee Jones, Randy Meisner of the Eagles, Peter Frampton, Prince, Christopher Cross, The Carpenters, Styx, Michael McDonald, The Doobie Brothers, Arthur Hamilton, David Pomeranz, and many others.
Beginning in Artist Development and A&R with A&M Records and later Warner Bros. Records, Mitchel became known for his rare ability to combine creative vision with technical excellence. Whether developing new talent, producing albums, engineering recordings, or preparing artists for major concert tours, his work has consistently centered on bringing out the very best in every performance.
His contribution to Gino Vannelli's landmark album Brother to Brother earned him a Platinum Record Award, while his years at Motown Records led to an enduring collaboration with Vice President Smokey Robinson. Mitchel engineered, co-produced, and supported worldwide tours for Robinson, produced projects for Berry Gordy, and worked with legendary artists including Aretha Franklin.
