I'm Meshach. I'm a songwriter, blues singer, soulful lyricist, passionate guitarist, tone-freak, beatmaker, collaborator, and live performer. Let's rock together.
I've been told I have a voice similar to Ray Lamontagne, Gary Clark Jr., Damien Rice, & Dave Matthews. I've worked hard to learn how to use my voice for a wide variety of styles and genres, and I've spent years learning the techniques and tones of singers in soul, rock, blues, folk, and gospel.
As a songwriter, I've worked with a number of independent artists from all different backgrounds and genres. Folk, Rock, and Blues are my primary genres, and I've worked on projects ranging from glitchy electronic music to New Orleans jazz & funk.
When you hire me you can expect quality. I do all comping and editing before sending final tracks. I do have access to larger studios if necessary (with an additional cost). I can also offer services for instruments, such as guitar, bass, keys, and drum programming. I also do some horn and string midi arrangements.

Interview with Meshach Jackson
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Anything on my spotify page ("Meshach Jackson").
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I have so many songs that I've never recorded. I'd love to start putting them out soon.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I think James Nagel does some cool stuff.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be collaborative, iterative, and flexible. That's what I am.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: my PRS parlor guitar, a 4-track digital recorder, a speaker, a backup battery, and a solar charger.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I learned to play guitar when I was 12, because I wanted to write songs. It's all I ever wanted to be great at. Guitar, voice, recording, and performance are all just a means to an end - writing great songs.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I sound like a burned-out box of old matches that got left in the rain. I sound like a homeless man on his first night in a shelter. I sound like a red-eye flight from JFK to LAX.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to write with John Mayer. I'd love to produce with Alt-J. I'd love to sing with / for Lake Street Dive.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Turn it down.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My own.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Catchy hooks, memorable turns of phrase, highly singable lyrics. I pay close attention to phonetics, and the way words feel to sing. I think too much about which vowels to use, and whether a phrase should have a perfect or near-perfect rhyme. I love complex melodies with deceptively simple words.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: 25 years of songwriting experience.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Logic Pro X, Mac M1, dual screens Orange amp, Electro-Harmonix pedals... Custom cigar box guitar, parlor acoustic, semi-hollow electric, project strat-kenstein, etc...
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Tom Waits, Mike Doughty, Milosh, DJ Shadow, Bjork, Dave Matthews, David Gray, Black Pumas, Bonobo, Pete Yorn, Daniel Lanois, Beck, Radiohead, Jason Isbell, Ben Hillier, Brian Eno, Rick Ruben
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm new to this site and haven't done much by way of exchanging virtual recording for money. I've been a songwriter/cowriter/performer for 25+ years.
