Just worked with Holden on our second song together and once again it was an absolute blast. He has this way of turning what you had imagined in your mind into something even better and bigger. Can’t wait to work on the next one!
Holden has everything you would want from a producer- talented, professional, communicative, and passionate about music. Though I should also add patient as I usually have more than a couple requests for changes. He's a great guy and I cannot recommend him enough for your project.
Working with Holden was a dream come true. This was my first time working on a song and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner to work with. He is so talented, patient and open to suggestion. It truly feels like you are COLLABORATING when working with him. He respects your feedback and in the end you come out with something incredible. I know who I’ll be coming to in future and I can’t wait to see what else we can create.
Working with you Holden is a great experience.
You made my song exist with a lot of professionalism, availability and of course emotions. I am very very grateful to you!
of course, we will continue to work together so get ready! :) thanks you!
Studio time with Holden at the helm is stress free beyond understanding. He is most relaxing person to be around and then you get to create with someone that has no ego interest but the artist’s.
Holden creates a space in his studio that brings out the right performance and he gives confidence in his feedback that shapes a song.
Holden James will guide you to the right space of excellence where you are all inspired and empowered.

Holden is an extremely welcoming presence when working in the studio. He is very kind, encouraging, and excited to work and create. Holden holds a very positive and open mind when working with others and always provides constructive and honest feedback, while contributing creative solutions. Versatility is a strength of Holdens, I have heard work from him from a wide range of genres, including but not limited to, Pop, Rock, Country, Singer Songwriter, ect..
Holden is one of my favorite guys to record songs with. He makes every vocal sound amazing and is able to produce any genre of music. He’s also great at mixing and puts the right amount of production on a song without over-producing. I always get compliments on every demo I do with him, he’s the real deal.
Holden is a multi genre producer and songwriter. We’ve worked on everything from country to pop to alternative and all his tracks sound amazing. He’s a consummate professional too. And he’s a Bills fan. In all seriousness, you should feel confident knowing that working with Holden will make your project amazing and you’ll have fun along the way!
Holden is remarkably talented and hard working. Combine that with an outstanding understanding of the songwriting craft, technology and the current music business landscape and you can't lose. All of the projects we've worked on together are better because of his involvement and unique creative vision. He's also a fantastically fun and easy pro to work with. Holden will instantly become your go-to guy...I guarantee it!
Interview with Holden Potter
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Everything is worked through Pro Tools in my setup. I use an apollo interface primarily. UA preamps and compressors. Nueman, Shure, and Mojave mics littler the place. I have a handful of fender electrics and Gibson acoustics for sessions that call for them. And will rent any other gear I feel is necessary for the project.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The record I just mentioned. Everyone dreams of moving to Nashville to make music, and I'm lucky enough to actually do it. I wrote all of the songs on the record, and produced some of the vocals on said project. Record is produced by Jaren Johnston (Cadillac Three).
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working on a pop/rock/country record with Sony that will be released in 2020. Im pretty stoked to say the least. ,
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Pat Berry (Over in North Carolina, has done some incredible work for me over the years)
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I LOVE ANALOG, but anymore digital is the fastest and most effective way to create a lot of the music we all love.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To give it hell! And to respect your time and money.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating. The fact that something can exist that didn't before, is truly incredible.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can we edit "this" or change "that"? Can you replicate something I love?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That producers have to take over projects and make them their own. I WORK FOR YOU.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What their goals are for the product? Whats the passion behind it? Can we communicate regularly?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Ask questions! Have GOOD and REALISTIC references Be available
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: 1960 Gibson J-45 Standard Capo Leather Guitar Strap Gator Case Box of Elixir Light strings
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: After graduating with a Biology degree, I did what any kid would do... forget about it and move to Nashville. I started writing in town with whoever would let me. After a couple of years I landed an internship with a multi-grammy winning producer who really taught me the ropes. After this I signed my first music publishing deal with Sony ATV and rest has been history.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Moody Pop that uses space.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Keith Urban -- He somehow can transition from guitar slinging 4-on-the-floor country legend to top pop producer within the same record. His melodies are frustratingly good.. and he's a class act.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Listen Listen Listen. Listen to mixes in your car, headphones, studio monitors, late at night, first thing in the morning... Doing this keeps your ears fresh and allows you to hear every aspect of the song. (oh... and also UAD plugins for some warmth and color)
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work primally on Pop and Pop-Country projects.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: If you were to ask my publisher, it would be writing unique and vibe-filled songs.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A unique perspective on sounds and tones, and a true OCD driven editing process.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It all starts with the SONG. Everything needs to revolve around the feel and meaning of the song. I tend to build the track from the drums up, ensuring the song hits just right.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: When it comes to music production, I'm consistently inspired my my "big three". This includes Dan Huff, Busbee, and Dave Cobb. Hard to beat em!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I most consistently complete demos for clients for pitching purposes. Following this, I would say general production for records I find exciting! Lately, I have been performing vocals for a number of clients!
