Endorse Chauncey ArnerInterview with Chauncey Arner
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I'm really proud of an album called "Weights" by Hamil. Very unique art pop album recorded at West Side Manor studio here in Nashville. I played guitars on about 9-10 songs. It was an incredibly special piece of music that never truly received the recognition it deserved. Everyone that heard it was enthralled.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Live streamed and socially distant concerts for the artists I tour with.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Nick Huddleston. Stellar guitar player and MD, great guy. Been playing with him for going on 10 years.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both! There's no one way to skin a cat, but I need to have enough tools at my disposal to skin each cat the way the client wants.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask for some context on the song. What's the story behind your music? What or who inspired you to write that song in that way?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My dad is an artist. I learned to walk on a tour bus. I was born and bred for this.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Keith Urban seems like the most enthusiastic and genuine guy. Also a gem of a guitar player.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Save often and back up EVERYTHING.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I tour with a country artist and record guitars on various projects when I'm home. In the last year I've worked on tracks with a rapper/RB artist, a contemporary Gospel choir, an indie/alternative singer-songwriter, and a country/CCM record.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I work harder.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I wake up, make an iced coffee, and start getting creative.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Recently, I have been listening to Shawn Tubbs (Carrie Underwood), Andy Wood (Rascal Flatts, Lo Cash) and Guthrie Trapp (John Oats). All are seasoned studio musicians and always provide the right parts and tones.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use an Apollo Twin interface equipped with nearly every UAD plugin. I also use a Kemper Profiling Amp which contains almost every guitar amp imaginable. I've built a stereo pedalboard for a lush palette of tones. I have an extensive collection of guitars that are capable of achieving any desired tone and texture.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I write, record, and edit tracks for film, tv, and artists of all genres.
