Interview with Joey P
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I want to get a sense of where you want the project to go. I'll ask for detailed background into the story of the song we are going to write.Good songs come from real life experiences.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on Pop and R&B.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill are lyrics
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Honest, thought-provoking lyrics and catchy melodies.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process starts just like a songwriter session would. We get to know each other/I get to know your story. If you have a melody or lines you love, I start with that and build from there. I want to make sure you are completely satisfied with the end result, so I will update you as I go to see if you vibe with what I'm doing or want me to go in a different direction. Once we are satisfied, I can help find a producer to nail the song.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by so many - namely Claude Kelly, J Kash, Fefe Dobson, Dan Wilson.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am mainly a songwriter. Given an idea and a story, I get that story told as true as possible through lyrics and melody. That is where I thrive. I push for honest, real lyrics - no line is a throwaway. I also push for catchy, stuck-in-your-head melodies.
