Interview with Eeva
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I don't have to try to hard to imagine that actually I have a similar experience every summer. it's not quite a deserted island lol but I spend my summers in my vacation house on the coast of Croatia where I bring my laptop,my small ESI soundcard and my BlueBluebird mic with me (Rode K2 is a lamp mic so I don't like moving it around too much). So that makes three...the remaining two would be sunscreen and an eyebrow pencil. I can't sound good without those lol
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been in this game professionally for about 10 years. First time I walked into a studio I was 14. I remember saving up my pocket money so I can record the songs I wrote. It's crazy to think I took myself that seriously at that age.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Soultry yet edgy, spiced up with vocal runs and a fast vibrato.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Frank Ocean. He's my favorite living artist. I am in love with his songwriting.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Singing. Mostly R&B/Soul/Hip-hop but I can sing in almost any style. I'm also very skilled at arranging backing vocals.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I strive to bring authenticity.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Apolllo Twin, two microphones, Rode K2 and BlueBluebird, and I prefer to work in Cubase. No particular reason other than..me and Cubase got history lol.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I usually love the combination of retro & futuristic. I love the production of SZA. So fresh yet spiced up with that 90's vibe. Anderson Paak, Frank Ocean, The Internet..those are my sound goals these days.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mostly session singing and writing short songs for TV commercials and radio jingles. I've been in that TV commercials game since 2008. I can't even tell how many of those I've recorded or seen on TV. DJs often hire me to sing BillBoard top 100 songs for remixes, and that's when I basically have to sing a copy of the entire track, the singing style, the accent, the backing tracks and harmonies, it's often a challenge, especially if it's a song with some gospel voicings or an artist with a distinctive vocal style and a big range. One of the most successful ones I did with a Belgian DJ Siege - Crunk, I sang the hook of Family Affair by Mary J Blige. I remember hearing it in every club or clothing store all over Europe. Since my voice is high pitched and youthful, I am also often hired to record songs for kids. I have mad fun doing those. Youtube is flooded with the kids songs that feature my vocals.
