Interview with Blak Marigold Pro
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm more of a reference person. I would play a lot of like material for inspiration and composition purposes to mimic the vibe and emotion. I'm inspired by sound so therefore I work hard on setting the mood with specific instruments. In the studio I AM THE VIBE!!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by Brian Michael Cox. I feel like he is more than a produce, but a musical genius. I feel like a real producer can play instruments and mimic a emotion that can set off a song even, if its his first time playing the instrument. That want Brian Michael Cox is good at.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use tons of analog gear and I love designing sounds with my Novation Ultranova Synth. I have over 26 Microphones and a lot of tube pre amps for pristine sound.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Depending on what service i'm providing, coffee is always number 1 for maximum focus.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I tend to bring emotion and life to a song. I have a fetish of strongly working on background vocals and adlibs to the point where I set up dedicated sessions for backing vocals. Half of the Life is in the music, the other half is in the artist ability to paint the picture. Once all factors are infused, its a audio motion picture.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is knowing when to STOP. Sometimes producers and engineers get caught up in adding more stuff to a track that it becomes over saturated. The minute you start muting elements and composing them, that's when it starts sounding better. My other strong skill is melody. Once I hear a song, it don't take long for me to come up with a melody.
