Interview with Federico Vaona

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: MYSTICO project. Entirely made by myself. THE MASON BROTHERS soundtrack, where I scored the music, recorded, mixed and mastered all in 5.1 with the entire film sound design. Really great adventures.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: New film soundtrack, new electronic/ambient project and a new EDM single.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both of the best. Both have a personal "color". Again, it's the ear...Not the gear!

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: 100% High quality guaranteed.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Composing and mixing at the same time. I want the sound immediately true to my ears. If it doesn't match what I want, it is because of note or sound choice at the beginning.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Can you make a soundtrack like that? My answers is: let me take a listen and 99% I say: Yes!

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: Making mistakes is a human nature. When I fall in a mistake I try to give solutions immediately. Not explanations. The client is always the most important.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: Which style do you prefer and when you need the work.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: If you are searching high quality with speed, that's my best. Don't think about how I do it. Think about the final result.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: My main computer, hard drives, authorisation keys, UAD interface and the main 88 keyboard.

  24. A: Multimedia Composer and Producer.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Hans Zimmer for the impressive experience and taste for film soundtracks. David Foster for the pop song style and elegance. David Guetta for the powerful EDM music and impressive.sound.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: You have to think about the emotions of the music and the sound. You have to dominate the machine. Not the inverse. Tools are tools. It depends how you use it. The first rule in sound is: there are no rules! It's the ear...Not the gear!

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Soundtracks for Films, TV Series and TV Shows, instrumental, electronic, EDM, Dance, Artists Pop songs, Smooth Jazz, Ambient, Lounge.

  34. A: Better and natural sound, proportionally balanced and respecting the style that client wants.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

A: 1 - Listen the entire material I receive and talk with the client to understand the style and sound he wants. 2 - Mixing carefully respecting proportions and making 3 dimensional ((space)) maintaining mono and small devices compatibilities like iPhones and so on. 3 - Mastering in a highest quality domain (24/96) with best of analog and digital processing.
