This year I achieved 1,540,000+ streams, and a sync placement in the hit TV show Claws. As a writer I have worked with several artists developing their sound and working one on one to bring their visions to life. I also work alongside producers for pitch and sync (Hudson Mohawke, Jordan Waré, Scott Bruzenak, Butch "oddkidout", Laney Stewart).

Interview with Merges
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: A project that has yet to come out yet with a new artist. She's super fun and easy to work with and we've been making her project over the past year. Her name is Alycia Bella and I can't wait for y'all to hear what we've been working on!! She's not afraid to get creative and 'weird', we always have a lot of fun in the studio.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My artist releases and songwriting for others.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Rio Root, as I said earlier! :) And also Rikki Ran if you need another dope female vocalist and writer!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because of accessibility and efficiency.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That you will get a product you are proud of and happy with. I will always work with you until you are 100% in love with the outcome!! And that my turn around is quick.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Everything! The creativity- the flexible schedule- being my own boss. The list goes on and on :))
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What is my process. And I tell them it is different every time :)
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it isn't time consuming or worth paying for. Writing is very personal, and takes some time especially when you are creating something for someone else and bringing their vision to life. Also recording and mixing. It's a whole process, and it is a lot of work!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What they intend to use the work for, timeline, budget, references, etc
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be clear with what you need-- your vision-- and your budget/ timeline!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My computer, mic, headphones, speakers, and interface!! (the necessities!!)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My career path was very DIY. It started with my babysitter loving to sing and teaching me piano.. to getting a karaoke machine and recording onto the tapes, to getting a guitar, to singing in bars and cowriting, to toplining in studios, to recording myself, and what ever is to come next :) I have been on this journey for about 9 years!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is really a 'merge' (haha) of many genres. I grew up writing with my guitar and then sang in country bars in Nashville, then migrated to LA where I'm writing pop and RnB and I think I have undertones of all of those things in my work. A nice blend :)
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would loveee to work with Frank Ocean for obvious reasons. He is a creative genius and his story telling goes unmatched. He is selective, unique, and gushing with emotion. I feel the things he's saying, even if I've never gone through it myself. He also has a major nostalgic and bittersweet vibe, which is my favorite. Above all else, he would push me, challenge me, and I would come out a better writer and artist after the collaboration!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Learn to record your own vocals, and have a basic knowledge with a DAW! I will change your life and make you so much more self sufficient, and you're able to experiment more, as you are working on your own time!!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I do Alt RnB myself, but I regularly work with pop artists and singer/songwriters as well.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Songwriting & vocal reference
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My vocals bring emotion and a sense of relatability. I have been singing for 7 years, and working in studios for 5 and I can bring you the dynamics and backgrounds needed to take the song to the next level, as I regularly vocal produce artists I work with while writing. I can also bring you an honest pen. I have been writing since I can remember and my style is very conversational. It's honest, cheeky, and strongly tied to a concept. I work well telling my own stories as well as other people. If you have an idea/ concept/ story, I can shape it into the song you would write yourself. :)
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical process is get a proposal, respond with my offer. Once that is accepted and funded, I get started and send a rough bounce in 1-4 days for approval. I would then do revisions (if there are any), and get you the final product. Stems are released upon release of payment!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a home-studio. KRK Rokit 5's, Sure sm7, Apogee Duet, and Logic Pro X! I have all the standard vocal plugins from Antares, Waves, Valhalla and more!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am really inspired by Summer Walker right now. Her lyrics, emotion, and tone are fantastic. I also really admire Rio Root, a long time collaborator of mine. If you need a full song (writing/ vocals/ + production) we can definitely knock it out! Check out Nstasia too, if you haven't. Incredible voice, and songwriter.. the production is also crazy!!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually am hired to do songwriting and/or vocals! I engineer myself, so my turn around time for professional vocals is pretty quick!
