My name's Alex and I'm the head engineer at Mantle Mixing & Mastering. I have 15 years total experience within the music industry, of which 9 of those years have been spent mixing and mastering music of various styles and genres.

Mantle prides itself on forging a solid connection and understanding with every client to guarantee that the end product is exactly what the artist had envisioned. I offer a one-to-one consultation with every service and remain in contact with the client throughout the entire process. Interview with Mantle - Mixing & Mastering

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: Music for me started properly at the age of 12. I took up drums and joined a few bands in my local area. As I reached the end of my teens, I discovered music production and found myself back at college where I picked up qualifications in Sound Engineering and Music Technology. So after I began my own solo career making and DJing Drum & Bass. I got picked up by a couple of independent labels and had releases on iTunes, Beatport and various other digital outlets. I always found myself enjoying the mixing stage more than the creating stage and it wasn't until a friend asked me to help mix one of his tracks, that the fire for mixing other peoples music really began to burn. I spent literally years learning and perfecting the art of mixing before deciding to pursue it full time early 2017. I've already had the pleasure of working with some tremendous artists, with music being played on numerous radio stations and having releases across all major distributors.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Helping other people achieve their dreams and hit the goals they've set. Whether it's getting their music played on the radio, signed to a record label or prepped for selling on digital outlets. There's no better feeling than having played a part in someone else's success.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: That they'll walk away completely satisfied with my service. Every job is tailored to every client. By keeping contact throughout the process, I can ensure the customer is happy from start to finish.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Picking the right engineer for your song is as important as picking the very samples that make it. If an engineer is drastically cheaper than the average, there's a reason for it. On average, a good mix takes around a day to complete. Does their rate reflect that? If it looks too cheap, the chances are they are cramming 2 or 3 mixes into a day just to make ends meet. Find an engineer that charges a reasonable rate and they're more likely to dedicate a full day getting the best out of your track and your track only.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: Before any work is started I offer a one-to-one consultation with every artist and also request a 'pre-mix questionnaire' is filled out to help gauge an understanding of the client's vision for each particular project. Once a start date is set, it typically takes around 3-4 days to complete inclusive of revisions and dependant on the service required. Music never leaves my studio with me being sure that I have done my very best. I've yet to find an unhappy customer.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: Anyone that takes pride in their work and values their art.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Sample selection is key!
