Interview with Gilbert T Jones

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: What's your vision for this project?

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: 1.Look for someone who provides free demos of their skill set. 2. Look for someone who offers consulations. 3. Review projects they've worked on for other people. 4. Hassle-free revisions. 5. Some one who has a good ear, and whose skill set matches their credentials. 6. Look for integrity.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: 1. Listen to rough mix, take notes 2. Check for any missing audio files 3. Mix preparation, Organization/color coding 4. Clean up any distracting artifacts in the audio if any 5. Get a good balance in the lows, mids, and highs with eq and "manual compression" 6. Pitch correction, vocal alignment if necessary 7. Add effects including parallel compression, Equalization, Reverb, Delay, etc

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I love both analog and digital because you get the best of both worlds. Analog an digital both have great benefits. This business is about the unique skill set that each individual brings to the table. You may get better results from an unknown producer, than from an established, well known producer. Why? Because it is not about status, but all about who vibes with the vision of your project.
