Joy has helped bring out the best qualities of my voice while in the studio. She helped me explore and strengthen my skills and a writer. The best music I've ever released has come from our work together. Joy is skilled in so many areass she is able to make the process very simple for me. I would recommend joy to every singer I know. Joy is an amazing musician and singer! If you really want your project done right, you will work with her. She is so multi-talented and creative, you can be completely confident in what she produces for you. The best part is, much like her name she is a joy to work with, and has a positive energy and spirit. She is tops!

Interview with Joy Daniels

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I just got finished producing a song for an incredible artist whom I had a chance to tour with. I'm so happy with what we were able to create together and look forward to sharing it. I'm mostly proud because it was a completely organic collaboration that was not forced at all.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I have 4 songs coming out in the next 3 months. WOO! 1 is for a brand new artist, the other is for a veteran independent artists, and I've got 2 songs coming out on my EP as a solo artist. Lots of work but worth the hours spent.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: It's gonna be fun! Be open. Be focused

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: Computer, interface, Microphone, Kaotica Eye Ball (portable booth), headphones.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I've been an industry professional for 10 years. Spent most of that time performing, writing and producing for myself. I was then introduced to the touring world where I got a chance to work with and witness the world's greatest musicians on the road with Stevie Wonder and Sam Smith. I'm now focusing on songwriting and production but look forward to getting back on the road. Great music can be made while seeing the world.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: Fresh, new innovative yet reminiscent of old school vibes.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: Beyonce. She's the most talented singer we have right now. Being in the studio with her would probably be a mind blowing experience. Frank Ocean for the creativity factor. John Mayer for the pure raw talent factor.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Always double or triple your sounds. Guys like Timbaland and Pharrell might be using 3 snares to make the one you perceive to be hearing.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: R&B, Hip Hop, Pop is my specialty.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: It doesn't take long for ideas to flow from me and with me. I believe focus is the catalyst for optimal creativity. As long as we're focused we can make something special.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I would say I bringing old school technique and new school sounds. I love simple lyrics that are direct & profound. In regards to production, I am always looking for new sounds and ways of conveying human emotion. I want to stretch and push people's ideas of what good music sounds like, while still holding true to my roots.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: I always write the song first, produce the track second and record the vocals third. I like to allow the artists I work with time to sit with the song so that they know for sure this is what they want to express before we talk about production. Production is extremely easy when it's a very good song.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: I have an in home studio for production which includes all the regular bells and whistles of microphone, monitors, interface, midi controllers ect. I usually do all of my programming there and take the live recordings to a professional studio.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: Pharrell embodies the versatility and longevity I wish to have in my career. I also love his production style and how unique it is. When you hear a Pharrell track you know it!

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: I spend 50 percent of my time producing tracks and music for independent artists and the other 50 writing top line and hooks for collaborators.

  31. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  32. A: The homie Franki - She's incredible.

  33. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  34. A: Rough question. Analog sound all day. Music doesn't bang the same as it used to back then.

  35. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  36. A: Highest quality we can get.

  37. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  38. A: The people.

  39. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  40. A: I'm asked about my experience on the road quite a bit. I always say, it changed my life in ways I'll never be able to articulate.

  41. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  42. A: As a person who sings for a living sometimes people assume there is someone else producing and recording me when I've been my own guy for a while now. When I collaborate with men it's always assumed the male did most of the production when really, I'm the driving force to any production I'm involved in. Behind the boards as well as conceptually.

  43. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  44. A: I want to know the broader vision of the project. What is the goal and what are you looking to express.
