Interview with Newman Audio
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A cover of Camelia Cabello’s Havana.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, because they each have their place in the studio. The UAD processing is amazing! But there is still something beautiful about turning those knobs, and the magic that happens in the analog world!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Avalon Vt737 Universal Audio Apollo Universal Audio 1176 Adam A7x (need two of these bad boys)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Record it to the best of your ability. The idea of “fixing it in the box” doesn’t always work. If you give me a turd I can polish it all you want, but at the end of the day.. it’s still a turd.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: HipHop and Singer-songwriters
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I like to think I’m pretty decent at engineering a recording session. I love finding the best mic for a sound source and the best position, then matching it with a mic pre that complements it.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my clients are HipHop or singer-songwriter artists. I engineer the sessions at an hourly rate, and usually Mix and Master the tracks for my clients as well at a fixed rate.
