Producer, Songwriter & Mixer with a touring musician background. Worked on a couple of Mark Ronson and Agust D (SUGA of BTS) productions. Also worked on songs for Netflix movies. Experienced in Pop, Trap, HipHop, R'n'B, Soul, EDM, Electro, Indie & Rock. 12 years of experience in the live music world, touring with over 50 bands.
I'm Dom, and I've been a professional drummer in Germany from age 17. In the past 13 years, I have toured with countless acts, and while doing so, I always took part in the writing and production process. I did stuff in Rock, Pop, Electro, EDM, R'n'B, Reggae, Punk, Emocore, Jazz & Bigband. My work is characterized by the vast number of influences I experienced first-hand. In my productions, I use these influences to give every production a unique flavor instead of trying to sound 100% like somebody else.
If you want to work with me - whether to have me mix your song, do production work, or take part in writing & creating your song (maybe because you have lyrics and a melody, but no idea or opportunity to create the instrumental track around it) - I would love to hear from you, get in touch and talk about your vision!
About my work ethic: I'm a huge perfectionist and I hate the idea of disappointing people. So there's simply no other way for me than to create the absolute best result I can for you. Of course I want my clients to be excited with the results I produce, that's always my goal. To prove that to you, all my Soundbetter projects come with unlimited revisions, meaning you get exactly what you want in the end. I won't stop making changes until you are 100% excited about how your music sounds and feels!

Interview with Dom Rivinius
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I guess you're always most proud of the things that mark the stepping stones to a higher level that you once wouldn't have dreamed about operating on. For me, that's creating the drums for the Mark Ronson production "Freak of Nature" (Theme song of the movie "Spies in Disguise"), as well as my first engineer credit of major importance, being assistant engineer on "D-2" from BTS Rapper SUGA's side project Agust D.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Brent Kolatalo! He's a badass engineer and producer, and a GREAT guy. He's definitely one of the best guys on this platform.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise that my clients always get a partner in me. When I'm hired, I act as if the project were my own artist project. That's because I know how much love and time and energy an artist puts in creating his music. I definitely want to honor that effort by giving everything I can to help elevate their music to a place where they couldn't quite get on their own.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I would say the most important thing is to find somebody who you feel in good hands with, and personality-wise is a good fit for you. Music is all about feel, and my experience shows that the best things always come out of relationships that feel good instead of just being qualified for the job. You should absolutely base your decision on your gut feeling and first impression (if you also like the provider's credits and showcase tracks of course!)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started out learning to play the drums at the age of 9 (learned to play the piano and the guitar later on). At age 16 I found my first originals band. Over 40 bands, 500 shows (also TV, radio etc.) later, I found my love for music production. I got started in the movie soundtrack world first, where I composed and produced soundtracks for 5 movies, 2 of which have been aired on national TV. Nevertheless my real love was always in writing, producing and mixing songs, and this is where I find myself right now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm not striving to sound "different just to be different". Music should move people and be relatable. That's always my main goal. So I guess my mixing and production style is "focused on creating a piece of music that feels right."
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: My bucket list - artist is Camila Cabello. I love everything she does, far beyond her music. She's the ultimate artist in my eyes, and I'd love to be part in one of her projects.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Here's the gem that took me longest to grasp: When your song loses energy somewhere along the way, it's usually because there is TOO MUCH going on. Don't try to add elements to make up for the loss of energy, but remove elements and find that everything remaining suddenly starts to shine through and make the whole part punch!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My main areas are pop-related genres. I'm especially experienced in pop, rock, trap, r&b and EDM.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is that I'm hard-working and completely focused on the best result. If anything doesn't match that standard in my eyes, I will keep going until your song is there.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My unique selling point is that I bring influences from 20 years of music education and 12 years of being a live musician, writing and touring in all kinds of genres, with over 500 shows. That naturally leads to a lot of original ideas and real world experience which in turn helps a lot in getting a mix right. You have to know how things CAN sound before you can make it a reality. That kind of work can only be done by somebody who has experienced a huge variety of musical styles first hand. I did not grow up as a bedroom producer like most producers nowadays, but I come from a professional music background, and that's exactly what makes my productions stand out.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually I like to learn as much as I can about the artists vision for the piece at hand. Listening to the demo, talking about reference tracks and the direction the artist has in mind. Once I got the stems or single tracks for mixing plus a rough mix that shows the artist's idea of the song, I get to work. Once I have the mix ready,I then send it out to have it reviewed. If the artist requests any changes, that's what happens in the revisions stage. I work on every project until the client is 100% satisfied!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm working mostly in the box, with some outboard gear to fulfill the necessary tasks. I love the Lewitt Authentica LCT 640 for voice and acoustic guitars, I use a UAD Apollo as my main interface. Other than that I work with plugins by Universal Audio, Plugin Alliance, Waves, iZotope, IK Multimedia, fabfilter, Soundtoys, etc.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I got started with music production because of ZEDD and his early aggressive electro tracks. His work influenced me strongly in the beginning. Since then there have been countless people whose work I admire, mostly out of personality and how they approach things! Some of them would be Mark Ronson, Ken Lewis, Ian Kirkpatrick, but also a wide range of artists with a true voice like Charlie Puth and Camila Cabello.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I guess the short answer would be "getting a great song that lacks a professional sound and polishing it with a stellar mix so that the song can compete on the international level."
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The freedom that comes with it in terms of creative and mental space. And out of that space, work is most fulfilling to me. I love meeting other artists and exchange stories, building relationships and creating great things together. For me that's the driving force.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both - because different tools fulfill different tasks! Whatever serves the song best is the weapon of choice!
