I highly recommend Andreas! He's really nice and he did such a great job on the instrumental, even getting the tone of the song the way I pictured it, and he was very understanding with me when I struggled with the payment. I loved working with him and I would gladly do so again if given the opportunity!

Interview with Andreas Feels

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: that the mixing alone will make the song good. I think that the song was already good before and will be polished by my mixing if only. If the song has some big parts that just don't work, I will do my best to help out in that area so that the song works much better.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: I can bring you the song to a great quality standard so that your application to a music label will be more promising afterwards. And this for a reasonable price and infinite revisions. Because no matter how good the song is. If the mix is bad then they will reject it, I can tell from my experience.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I started playing the guitar 10 years ago. After that came the time in a band. Through detours I then came to the production of beats and finally then to the music school Point Blank on which I successfully completed my one-year study of music production with all its facets.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: I think one day with the producer duo Stargate in the studio and my biggest dream would come true.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: most of the work i have done for clients so far is a classic mixing & mastering. Sometimes combined with a few details i was allowed to add in the songs at my own discretion.

  11. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  12. A: It was on this song "Far From Home" (demo on top) that I met the singer-songwriter duo Amistat. We are from the same city and ran into each other by chance. I have only by chance noticed that they are full-time musicians and they directly addressed whether they would not have interest that I make a remix of them. They were immediately involved. After some time we met at my house and even found out that we were at the same school and had the same teachers. The remix turned into a completely new version and we also recorded new parts during the studio session. A good friend of mine also joined as a producer. The project lasted a year in total. But I am infinitely proud to have done this with such great people and on the result we are all very proud.

  13. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  14. A: I am currently working on old songs for my project "Mi Sko" which will finally be equipped with vocals, as I have met excellent singers.

  15. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  16. A: If you need a good studio bass player then Luca Giachi is a great address. I have worked with him twice and he is really a great bass player and cool guy.

  17. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  18. A: Digital. The more analog stuff I have in the studio, the less I use it. Nowadays, digital plugins are really strong and almost indistinguishable from analog gear. They are also extremely well made and modeled on analog sounds as well.

  19. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  20. A: I work until the customer is 100% satisfied.

  21. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  22. A: To be the first to hear new music and to work in the area that both I and the client love. So there is always a very respectful climate, even though you are only in contact with your customer in writing.

  23. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  24. A: Whether the song is good in my opinion. My answers are always honest and with suggestions for improvement

  25. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  26. A: does he want the song to stay exactly the same or are small modifications allowed at my discretion.

  27. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  28. A: My computer, mouse, keyboard, interface and speakers. That should be enough to attract the attention of the emergency services with my loud music.

  29. Q: How would you describe your style?

  30. A: my style is savvy and on target. I don't think you should wait for inspiration, instead you can work in anticipation of it. I always try to keep track of the whole song and the final product, because that's what counts.

  31. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  32. A: Show your music to other people, but don't try to convince them of your music. Rather, pay attention to their reaction. Do they bob their heads along? If the feel of the song is right (I call it the fourth dimension), then I'm happy to help make the song technically outstanding and ready for all the demands of the industry.

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: The music I kind of grew up in is probably deep house or general house music which features vocals and melodic instruments. But I also like to work on Hip/Hop tracks. And I also love to leave my comfort zone and work on all other related genres. At the end of the day, good songs always come down to a good mix and the process for that is pretty much the same for everyone.

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: To keep order and also to establish it. Clarity is the most important thing for a song. Both in the structure of the song and in the instruments. Layers need to be glued together. And the individual components must be well placed and highlighted at the right frequencies and volumes, but also in the stereo field.

  37. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  38. A: I can definitely take the song to the next level from a mixing perspective, but also from a production perspective.

  39. Q: What's your typical work process?

  40. A: I listen attentively to my client's demo 2-3 times and take notes along the way. Then I respond to the wishes of the customer and explain to him what I have in mind, if he wants. As soon as I have the stems, each track gets a special treatment and is brought in the mix to the high gloss.

  41. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  42. A: I work with high-end Monkey Banana monitors and Audio-Technica headphones. My computer is a 27" iMac and my interface is the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB. Also on board is a MIDI keyboard and all my knowledge from 10 years of experience both in my head and in my notebook in which I have important tips & tricks. So all in all very digital. I have found that the more equipment I have in the studio, the less I use it. Isn't that funny?

  43. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  44. A: I definitely look up to the greats of the industry, like Max Martin or the duo Stargate which are mainly through their production in the foreground or rather in the background. So the artists behind the artists.
