Interview with PROSLAY
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of is EYES WIDE, my debut six-track EP, released in October 2026. As PROSLAY, I served as the primary songwriter, lead vocalist, and creative visionary behind the project. I developed the lyrical concepts, vocal melodies, and overall artistic direction while collaborating with producers and audio engineers to bring each song to life. What makes this project particularly meaningful to me is the range of emotions and experiences it explores. From vulnerability and heartbreak to self-awareness and empowerment, each track tells a different story while contributing to a larger creative vision. EYES WIDE represents more than my first EP. It’s a reflection of my growth as both a woman and an artist, and proof of what can happen when you commit to your vision and follow it through.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I recently released EYES WIDE, my six-track debut EP, and completed my first live performance. Both have been exciting milestones in developing PROSLAY as an independent artist. I’m continuing to write and develop original material for future releases while expanding into professional songwriting and toplining for other artists. My focus right now is growing creatively, building meaningful collaborations, and creating music that connects with people.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to approach every project with creativity, integrity, and genuine respect for your artistic vision. I’ll listen, communicate openly, and put intention into every lyric and melody I create. Whether we’re developing something deeply personal or crafting a catchy anthem, my goal is to deliver original, meaningful work that reflects who you are as an artist. Your vision deserves more than a generic song, and I’ll treat it that way.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the moment when an idea becomes something real. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about taking an emotion, a memory, or even a passing thought and turning it into music that someone else can connect with. Songwriting gives me the freedom to explore different perspectives, tell stories, and express things that aren’t always easy to say in everyday conversation. Knowing that something I create could become part of someone else’s story is what makes the process so meaningful to me.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you write a song that fits my personal style? Absolutely. My approach is collaborative and artist-focused. I take time to understand your sound, influences, creative direction, and the message you want to communicate. While I bring my own songwriting instincts and experience, my goal is never to make your music sound like mine. It’s to help create something that feels authentic to you.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That songwriting is simply putting words together that rhyme. There’s so much more behind creating a song that resonates. It’s understanding emotion, phrasing, melody, rhythm, storytelling, and knowing when simplicity carries more weight than complexity. A great song doesn’t necessarily need the most elaborate lyrics. It needs the right words, delivered in a way that makes someone feel something. That’s where the artistry comes in.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I start by asking what inspired the project and what they want the listener to feel. Do they have an existing concept, instrumental, or melody, or are we starting from scratch? I also like to understand their musical influences, preferred style, and any personal experiences they want reflected in the lyrics. Beyond the creative direction, I ask about their timeline, expectations, and how they envision using the finished song. I believe understanding both the artistic and practical sides of a project is essential to a successful collaboration.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for a songwriter who understands your vision, not just someone who can put words together. The best collaborations happen when there’s open communication, creative trust, and a shared understanding of what the song should accomplish. Come prepared to talk about your influences, the emotions you want to convey, and what makes your artistry unique. You don’t need to have everything figured out. Sometimes a single idea or conversation is enough to inspire an entire song. Most importantly, work with someone who wants to bring your vision to life rather than impose their own.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A notebook, a pen, a microphone, a laptop with recording software, and a good pair of headphones. Give me somewhere to capture ideas, a way to record melodies, and a little inspiration, and I’ll find a way to make music. Sometimes the best songs start with the simplest tools.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My professional music journey took shape in 2026 when I launched PROSLAY as an independent recording artist and songwriter. Since then, I’ve released my debut single, Permission, followed by my six-track EP, EYES WIDE, and stepped onto the stage for my first live performance. Building my career independently has given me hands-on experience with songwriting, recording, collaborating with producers and engineers, and developing a distinct artistic identity. I’m now expanding that creative foundation into writing for other artists, bringing the same dedication and intention to their projects that I bring to my own.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is emotionally driven, melodic, and unapologetically authentic. I blend R&B, pop, hip-hop, and soul, with an emphasis on storytelling, memorable hooks, and lyrics that feel both personal and relatable. I enjoy the contrast between vulnerability and confidence. One song might explore heartbreak and self-reflection, while another celebrates independence and empowerment. I don’t believe in limiting creativity to one sound. I believe in making music that means something.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don’t overproduce a song before you’ve established its foundation. A strong melody, meaningful lyrics, and the right arrangement can carry more impact than layers of unnecessary production. Sometimes the most powerful creative decision is knowing what to leave out. Give the vocals and the message room to breathe.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I primarily write R&B, pop, and hip-hop, often incorporating elements of soul and melodic rap. My writing ranges from emotionally vulnerable relationship songs to confident, empowering anthems. I enjoy blending genres and experimenting with different sounds while maintaining strong storytelling, engaging melodies, and memorable hooks.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is storytelling through songwriting. I can take an emotion, experience, or even a single thought and develop it into a complete musical concept. I also have a strong instinct for memorable hooks and melodies that complement the message of a song. I know when to let lyrics speak for themselves and when simplicity makes the biggest impact.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring perspective, emotion, and intention. I don’t believe in writing lyrics just to fill a beat. Every word, melody, and hook should serve a purpose. I have a natural ability to take real experiences and turn them into something listeners can connect with, whether it’s vulnerability, confidence, heartbreak, or empowerment. I want people to feel something when they hear a song, and more importantly, remember it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Every project starts with understanding the artist’s vision. I want to know what they’re trying to express, how they want the listener to feel, and what direction they envision for the song. From there, I develop lyrics, melodies, and song structure while keeping their artistic identity at the center. I value communication, creative collaboration, and thoughtful revisions to make sure the finished work feels authentic and intentional.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work collaboratively with professional recording and audio engineers to bring my songwriting projects to life. My creative process focuses on developing lyrics, vocal melodies, harmonies, and song structure before moving into professional recording, mixing, and mastering. This allows me to prioritize the songwriting while maintaining high standards for the finished music.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists and songwriters who aren’t afraid to be vulnerable, tell the truth, and create music that leaves a lasting impression. I appreciate the emotional honesty of artists like SZA, the melodic creativity of Rihanna’s catalog, and the storytelling found throughout R&B and hip-hop. I’m especially drawn to writers who can make something deeply personal feel universally relatable.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My primary focus is songwriting, lyric development, and vocal melodies across R&B, pop, and hip-hop. I specialize in turning real emotions, personal experiences, and creative concepts into songs with meaningful lyrics and memorable hooks. Whether I’m developing a song from scratch or helping bring an existing idea to life, I focus on creating music that feels authentic to the artist and connects with listeners.
