Interview with HYAG

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm working on a personal album that shares my feelings and emotions, with deep lyrics and great production.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Analog, because I believe there is more personality that these instruments bring to a track.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: Deliver the best service I possibly can, and ensure a full refund if the client isn't fully satisfied.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Being able to express myself creatively and being a calm and relaxed job.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: Music can't be a job.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: If there are days you don't want to create nothing at all, don't force it. It is best to rest your creative brain.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Computer, Headphones, MIDI Keyboard, Microphone and Scarlett Audio Interface.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I have been doing music for 3 years, and I'm working towards being an established artist in my country (Portugal), and working with the most famous Portuguese artists.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: Fun and energetic.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Mike Dean, because he is a synth god and understands a lot about making a song sound clean and professional.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Don't try to make music as fast as possible, if a song is meant to be finished in 20 minutes, than it's ok, but if it is meant to be finished in 20 days, you should not rush the process.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: Hiphop and trap.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: Mixing and mastering songs, from start to finish.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: I try to bring my personality, my feelings and the emotions I don't usually share with people around me.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: I try everyday to write a melody line, even if it is bad, and try to develop something with that. If it turns out good, I record and create a finished product out of that melody, if not, I discard the project and try something new.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: For vocal recording I use a Rode NT1-A, paired with a Scarlett 4i4 Audio Interface. As the computer I use a MacBook Pro, and I use Ableton as my primary DAW. To make songs, I mostly use VSTs, but when I want something more natural and analog, I use my Prophet Rev2.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: Mike Dean, Travis Scott, Yeat, Future, Quavo, Offset, to name a few.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: I offer beat-making and production services for my clients, but I also offer mixing and final mastering services to make streaming ready audio.
