A good mix strengthens what is already in the song. I don't paste my own sound onto your music; I look for what the song needs. I mix and master layered, atmospheric music: dreampop, shoegaze, art rock, post-punk, and ambient. I'm a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist myself, and I still play live, so I listen the way you do.
I've been mixing and mastering for other artists since 2021, from my studio in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Mostly dreampop, shoegaze, art rock, indie, post-punk, and ambient, though I listen too widely to really think in genres. What I'm best at is layered music with a lot of ambience and depth. Dreamy and melancholic.
I'm a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, still playing live, and I graduated as a guitarist from Rock City Institute in Eindhoven.
Every project starts with a conversation. What are your ideas, and does the direction I hear in the song match them? The more you share, the better I can translate the music into the mix.
That's why I ask for one to three reference tracks, each with a short note on what exactly appeals to you. The sound, the atmosphere, the balance, a specific instrument, or a particular feeling. A snare sound is as useful as an overall vibe.
In the studio, I use a variety of gear, including an AKAI X-150D reel-to-reel for tape saturation, Yamaha HS7 monitors, SoundID Reference room-tuning, Neunaber reverbs, and the same guitar pedals Slowdive uses. I work in Ableton and a few other DAWs. I always use analogue options where it helps the feel.
