Enok Amrani

Mixing Engineer

Enok Amrani on SoundBetter

I mix singer-songwriter, folk and Americana music with a focus on natural vocals, acoustic instruments and the character of the performance. I’m Enok Amrani, the engineer behind Myrica Productions in Norway.

My name is Enok Amrani, a musician and mixing engineer based in Porsgrunn, Norway. At Myrica Productions, I work with artists who want their recordings to feel clear, warm and true to the song.

I’ve produced, recorded, mixed and mastered my own releases as Enok Amrani, and I’ve also mixed tracks for Sylvisphere.

My focus is singer-songwriter, folk, Americana and acoustic music. I pay particular attention to vocals, acoustic instruments and the small details that give a performance its personality.

Send me your rough mix and tell me what you want the finished song to feel like. I’m happy to discuss the project before we get started.

Interview with Enok Amrani

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I’m producing and mixing songs for my upcoming releases as Enok Amrani, while also working on a new track with Sylvisphere. Moving between my own music and another artist’s project keeps me attentive to what each song needs.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both. I work digitally for the flexibility and precision it gives me, and I use analog equipment when its sound adds something the song needs. I choose the tools by listening to the music, rather than following a fixed rule.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I’ll listen to your goals, treat your song with care and respect, and communicate clearly throughout the process. You’ll know what’s included before we start, and I’ll work with your feedback to make the mix feel right for your music.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I enjoy the moment when a mix starts to reveal what was special about the performance all along. Helping a vocal connect, giving the instruments space and hearing the whole song come together is what I find most rewarding.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What do you want the finished song to feel like? Do you have a rough mix or references? Are the recordings and edits ready for mixing, and is there a deadline I should know about?

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: Natural, warm and song focused. I like mixes where the vocal connects with the listener and the instruments have room to breathe.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: I’d love to mix a song for Foy Vance. His music has a strong sense of performance and storytelling, and I’d enjoy finding a mix that gives his voice and acoustic instruments space while keeping that raw, human feel.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I mainly work on singer-songwriter, folk, Americana and acoustic music. I also enjoy projects that move beyond those genres when the focus is on the performance and the character of the song.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: My strongest skill is hearing what gives a performance its character and building the mix around it. As a songwriter and musician myself, I pay particular attention to the vocal, the interplay between instruments and the small details that make a song feel personal.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: I listen for what makes the performance feel personal, then work to bring that forward in the mix. My focus is on natural vocals, clear acoustic instruments and a sound that serves the song.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: I start by listening to your rough mix and references, and discussing what you want the song to feel like. After receiving labelled, consolidated tracks, I prepare and mix the song, send you a version for feedback and make the agreed revisions.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: I work from Myrica Productions in Porsgrunn, Norway, using Fender Studio Pro and a Focusrite Clarett+ 8Pre. My studio includes Focusrite and Warm Audio preamps, analog compression and a selection of microphones for vocals and acoustic instruments.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: Artists such as Ray LaMontagne, Thomas Dybdahl and Foy Vance inspire me in different ways, from intimate storytelling to the energy of a band performance. On the production side, I enjoy learning from great people like Warren Huart, Joe Chiccarelli and Daniel Lanois, especially how they approach the sound in service of the music.
