Interview with Jaden D'Wayne

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I’m especially proud of is my album Unfixable, because it allowed me to bring together different sides of my songwriting and production. I was involved throughout the process—from writing and recording to developing the melodies, production, vocal work, and overall direction. It pushed me to be more honest and intentional with my music and showed me how much I could create independently.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now, I’m focused on developing new music, improving my production and vocal work, and building my services for other artists. I’m also working on expanding my skills across songwriting, mixing, mastering, and digital content so I can take on more creative projects.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I’m always open to connecting clients with other talented professionals when a project needs skills outside my own. I don’t have a specific SoundBetter provider I’d recommend by name yet, but I’m happy to collaborate with other producers, engineers, songwriters, and musicians to help build the right team for a project.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. It gives me the flexibility to experiment, edit, and build ideas quickly while keeping everything organized and accessible. I can still use analog-inspired sounds and processing when they fit the song, but digital tools give me the freedom to shape the sound exactly how I want.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is to treat every project with care, creativity, and respect for the artist’s vision. I’ll communicate clearly, put real effort into the work, and make sure the final result feels authentic to you—not like a copy of someone else’s sound.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I like most is turning an idea into something real. Whether it’s a lyric, melody, beat, or full production, I enjoy taking something that starts in someone’s head and helping turn it into a song they can actually connect with and be proud of.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: “Can you work with my style?” Absolutely. I adapt my approach to the artist instead of forcing every song into the same sound. “Can you work with unfinished ideas?” Yes. I can help develop rough lyrics, melodies, demos, or production ideas into a more complete song. “How involved can I be?” As involved as you want. I’m comfortable taking the lead or working closely with you throughout the process. “Can I request revisions?” Yes. I want the final result to match your vision, so feedback and revisions are part of the process.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception is that music production is just about making a song sound polished. A huge part of the job is understanding the artist’s vision, emotion, and identity, then using production to bring that idea to life without taking away what makes the artist unique.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I usually ask what sound and overall direction they’re going for, what inspired the song, what they want me to handle, and whether they have any reference tracks. I also ask about deadlines, preferred file formats, and what they want the final result to feel like.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Look for someone who understands your vision instead of simply applying the same formula to every song. Be clear about the sound and emotion you want, communicate openly, and choose a provider whose style fits your project. A good collaboration should feel like a creative partnership.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Laptop — my main production and recording hub. Audio interface — for clean, reliable recording. Studio headphones — for detailed mixing and monitoring. Condenser microphone — for recording vocals and ideas. MIDI keyboard — for melodies, chords, and beat creation.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started creating music at a young age and have been developing my skills for several years. I’ve written and recorded over 1,200 songs while learning songwriting, beat production, vocal production, mixing, and mastering through hands-on experience. I’ve grown from making music for myself into helping other artists bring their ideas to life.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is emotional, melodic, and versatile, blending hip-hop, pop, R&B, and alternative sounds. I focus on honest storytelling, memorable melodies, strong wordplay, and real emotion while keeping the music natural and personal.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with Bebe Rexha because of her ability to blend pop, country, and emotional songwriting while still making music that feels catchy and genuine. I’d love to bring my own melodic and lyrical style to a collaboration and create something that feels both emotional and energetic.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don’t overprocess everything. Leave space for the vocals and emotion to breathe. A clean arrangement, balanced levels, and subtle effects will usually sound more natural than stacking a bunch of plugins just because they’re available.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work across hip-hop, pop rap, melodic hip-hop, emo rap, pop, R&B, and alternative music. I also enjoy blending genres and experimenting with different sounds, especially when a song calls for something outside the usual formula.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is songwriting and turning real emotions or ideas into lyrics and melodies that feel natural, relatable, and memorable. I’m especially good at storytelling, wordplay, and adapting to different sounds and genres.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring creativity, emotion, strong songwriting instincts, and a hands-on approach to every track. I focus on making songs feel authentic and memorable, while balancing melody, lyrics, production, and vocals so everything works together instead of sounding overproduced.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I start by understanding the client’s vision, sound, references, and goals. From there, I build or develop the music, refine the vocals and arrangement, and focus on the details that make the track feel natural and unique. I finish with mixing, revisions, and a final quality check before delivery.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My setup is a home-based digital studio focused on songwriting, vocal production, beat creation, and mixing. I work primarily in a DAW with digital instruments, plugins, vocal-processing tools, and AI-assisted production when appropriate. I keep my workflow flexible so I can create, edit, mix, and deliver projects entirely from my own setup.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I’m inspired by artists like Juice WRLD, Eminem, JID, Bebe Rexha, Jessie Murph, and The Kid LAROI. I admire their ability to combine strong songwriting, honest emotion, memorable melodies, and unique vocal or lyrical styles while still sounding authentic.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: help clients with music creation and digital content, including songwriting, lyric writing, beat production, vocal editing, mixing, mastering, and short-form video editing. I focus on making each project sound polished while keeping it natural, creative, and true to the client’s style
