I produce, mix, and master rock, metal, blues rock, alternative, and shoegaze music with a focus on making your songs hit harder without losing what makes them yours.
I work with independent artists and bands who want their music to sound finished, powerful, and professional without losing the character of the original performance.
My work covers production, arrangement, mixing, and mastering, depending on what your project needs. I can work from a rough demo, an existing mix, or individual stems and help take the song where you want it to go.
I especially enjoy working with rock, metal, blues rock, alternative, and shoegaze, but I’m open to working with artists outside those genres as well.
My approach is straightforward: understand what you’re trying to accomplish, figure out what the song actually needs, and make decisions that serve the music rather than forcing it into a particular sound.
Whether you need another set of ears on a mix, a full production, or a final master, I’m interested in helping you get the most out of the recording.

Endorse Josh Hudson3 Reviews

I’ve been working with Josh for almost a year now - he’s very professional, easy going, and is just as passionate as you are about your music. I hadn’t picked up my guitar in years. When he heard some of my ideas he urged me to start writing again and helped me release several singles and now we’re working on my first EP. Couldn’t have done that without him.

As a vocalist I have struggled with writing and f8nishing music for over 20 years. Now I have released over 20 singles and 1 album with Josh producing cowriting and offering critiques. My music is currently live on multiple radio stations in florida, Texas, and California. I wouldn't be able to get the quality and quantity of.music I have without the expertise that Josh has added to my craft. If you have unfinished projects or need help perfecting what you already have Josh is your guy!!!
Interview with Josh Hudson
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m especially proud of my work with Malachias' song "Chosen" because it captures the kind of music I want to make: heavy, atmospheric, and emotionally direct. I handled the production, mixing, and mastering, which let me shape the record from the earliest ideas through the final release. I’m proud of how the tones, arrangement, and overall energy came together without losing the song’s personality.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now, I’m continuing to develop my own music while building my production, mixing, and mastering work with artists in heavy, guitar-driven genres. I’m always refining my workflow, improving my ears, and looking for projects where I can help an artist turn a strong idea into a finished record.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m still building relationships within the SoundBetter community, so I’d rather recommend someone based on the specific needs of the project than name-drop. If I’m not the right fit for a song, I’m happy to point an artist toward someone whose strengths better match the music.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Primarily digital by necessity and by design. My military career and living situation require a flexible, portable setup, so I rely on intentionally chosen plugins rather than a large collection of outboard gear. That limitation has made me more deliberate with every tool in my chain. I use digital processing for its recall, precision, and consistency, while choosing plugins that bring the color, weight, and character a song needs.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to treat your music with care, communicate honestly, and stay focused on what serves the song. I will bring preparation, attention to detail, and a collaborative attitude to every project. I won’t force my taste onto your record; I’ll help you make the strongest, clearest version of your vision.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like helping an idea become something real that someone can live with, share, and feel proud of. There’s a great moment when a song starts to sound like the artist always imagined it, or better than they thought it could. Being part of that process is why I enjoy production, mixing, and mastering.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The most common question is, “Can you make this sound professional?” My answer is yes, but “professional” means more than loud or polished. It means the song translates well, the important moments are clear, and the record feels intentional. I work with artists to define what that means for their music instead of forcing every project into one sound.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: A common misconception is that mixing or mastering can fix anything. Those stages can elevate a great song and solve many problems, but they work best when the arrangement, performances, and recording decisions already support the vision. The strongest records are built through good choices at every stage, not one miracle plugin at the end.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask what they want the song to feel like, what artists or records they’re using as references, what stage the project is in, and what they need help with. I also ask about deadlines, budget, revision expectations, and deliverables. Good questions upfront prevent surprises later and give us the best chance of making something we’re both proud of.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to their work first. Technical ability matters, but you also need someone who understands your sound, communicates clearly, and makes the process feel collaborative. Come prepared with references, goals, deadlines, and honest feedback. The better you can describe what you want your music to feel like, the better your provider can help get it there.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A Mac running Logic Pro; Quality headphones; An audio interface; An electric guitar; A dependable pair of monitors
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I came to production through a lifelong connection to music and performance, then developed my technical skills through hands-on recording, mixing, and mastering work. I’ve learned that the best results come from equal parts musical instinct, attention to detail, and good communication. I've been involved in music for over three-decades.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is heavy, atmospheric, and song-focused. I like punchy drums, guitars with character, vocals that feel connected to the lyric, and enough space for a track to breathe. I’m not interested in making every record sound the same; I want the production to support the identity of the artist and the song.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with an artist who has a strong identity and is willing to take creative risks. The best collaborations happen when everyone cares more about making the right record than following a formula. My personal hero I would love to work with is Dave Grohl for he is the example all others should strive to be like.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Commit to decisions earlier than you think you need to. Great productions usually come from a clear vision, not endless options. Get the source tones and performances as close as possible to the final feeling, then use mixing to enhance what is already working rather than trying to rescue an unclear arrangement.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I primarily work on Metal, Hard Rock, Shoegaze, and Blues Rock. I’m especially drawn to music with strong guitars, real dynamics, atmosphere, and a clear emotional point of view. If your music is loud, heavy, hazy, riff-driven, or soulful, there’s a good chance we’ll speak the same language.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is balancing impact with emotion. I enjoy helping heavy or atmospheric music hit hard while keeping the performances, dynamics, and personality intact. A great mix should feel exciting without becoming fatiguing, and polished without losing the edge that made the song worth making.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring an outside perspective that respects the artist’s vision. My role is to identify what makes the song work, make that the focal point, and remove distractions. Whether that means bigger guitars, clearer vocals, more impact in the drums, or a better overall arc, I aim to make the finished record feel more like itself.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Every project starts with listening. I want to understand the artist’s goals, influences, references, and what they want the listener to feel. From there, I organize the session, build the strongest possible foundation, and work from the big picture down to details. I check progress against references, leave room for feedback, and make sure the final master translates outside the studio.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup is built around a practical, in-the-box workflow centered on Logic Pro. I focus on having reliable tools, solid monitoring, and an organized session template so I can spend less time fighting technology and more time making decisions that serve the music.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists and producers who make heavy music feel emotional, dynamic, and human. I admire records with strong songwriting, massive guitars, atmospheric textures, and mixes that serve the song instead of simply chasing loudness.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I produce, mix, and master guitar-driven music, especially Metal, Hard Rock, Shoegaze, and Blues Rock. My goal is to help artists make records that feel powerful, clear, and intentional without sanding off the character that makes their music theirs.
