Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

A: My debut single, “Ease,” is a project I’m especially proud of. I wrote and performed the lead vocal and worked collaboratively through the production process to shape the song’s emotional arc. It taught me a lot about restraint, vocal dynamics, and letting a performance build naturally rather than forcing intensity too early.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: I’m continuing to develop and release my own music as Kate Solmara while expanding into remote session vocal work and collaborations with other independent artists and producers.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: I’ll treat your song like it matters. I’ll listen carefully, communicate clearly, stay collaborative, and deliver vocals that serve the emotion and intention of the track rather than just showing off the voice.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: That moment when a song stops feeling like a demo and starts feeling emotionally real. I love hearing a vocal settle into a track and suddenly understanding what the song wants to be.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: That a good vocal is mainly about hitting the notes. Technique matters, but the smallest choices, phrasing, restraint, breath, tone, and knowing when not to over-sing, are often what make a performance believable.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: What do you want the listener to feel? Are there reference vocals or artists you have in mind? Do you want me to follow the existing melody closely, or are you open to phrasing and melody suggestions? And what vocal deliverables do you need, lead, doubles, harmonies, stacks, or alternate takes?

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Send references, but also tell me what you want the listener to feel. That emotional direction is often more helpful than simply saying, “Make it sound like this artist.” I’m very collaborative, so I’d rather understand the intention behind the vocal than make assumptions.

A: Warm, expressive, soulful, and conversational. My voice tends to sit naturally in indie folk-pop and singer-songwriter music, with a softer tone that can build into a stronger, more soaring delivery when the song calls for it.

A: Connecting emotionally to a lyric and translating that into a vocal performance that feels natural, expressive, and specific to the song.

A: Emotional instinct. I pay a lot of attention to what a lyric is actually saying and try to make the vocal feel lived-in rather than simply technically correct. I also love finding subtle harmonies, phrasing choices, and dynamics that help the story land.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: I start by listening closely to the song, references, and any direction the artist or producer provides. I like to understand the emotional intention before recording. From there I’ll track the lead vocal, then build doubles or harmonies where they genuinely add something. I’m very comfortable collaborating on phrasing, melody, key, or arrangement ideas along the way.

A: I’m drawn to artists and producers who balance strong songwriting with emotional restraint, where the vocal feels honest rather than overworked. I especially love music that can feel intimate and conversational while still building into something expansive.

A: I provide expressive lead vocals, harmonies, doubles, stacks, and demo vocals for indie folk, folk-pop, acoustic pop, singer-songwriter, and contemporary Christian projects. I focus on emotional delivery, clean phrasing, and finding the vocal approach that best serves the song.
