I write emotionally sharp, hook-driven lyrics that turn ideas and feelings into songs people remember. My writing combines vivid imagery, strong concepts, emotional storytelling, and memorable hooks — created for artists who want a lyric with something to say and a feeling that stays.
I’m a songwriter and lyricist focused on creating emotionally compelling songs with strong concepts, vivid imagery, memorable hooks, and a clear point of view.
I write original lyrics for artists, producers, and songwriters who already have an instrumental, concept, melody, or simply an idea they want to turn into a song.
My writing can range from intimate and vulnerable to playful, sensual, confident, dramatic, or cinematic. I’m especially interested in songs with a strong emotional thesis — lyrics that tell a story, create an atmosphere, and leave something behind after the song ends.
I offer:
Custom songwriting based on your concept or brief
Lyric writing for artists and producers
Existing lyrics available for acquisition
Co-writing collaborations
If you have a track that needs a story, a hook that needs a song around it, or an idea that you haven't found the words for yet, I'd love to hear it.

Interview with Maya D
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of is my Pool Party project, an original pop project where I was deeply involved in the songwriting and lyric development. My role was songwriter and lyricist, developing the concepts, emotional direction, lyrics, and overall narrative of the songs. I’m proud of it because it allowed me to explore confidence, desire, vulnerability, and self-expression through a cohesive creative world.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently building my lyric catalog and exploring new songwriting collaborations with artists and producers. I’m focused on writing emotionally engaging songs with strong concepts, memorable hooks, and a distinctive point of view.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet — I’m still getting to know the SoundBetter community and discovering the talented professionals on the platform.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog — I write lyrics by hand. It feels more instinctive, personal, and connected to the creative process.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is simple: I’ll listen, understand the heart of your idea, and put genuine care into every word. I want you to receive lyrics that feel authentic to your vision, emotionally engaging, and crafted with intention.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I like most is turning something intangible — a feeling, an idea, or a story — into words that suddenly make it real. I love that moment when a lyric comes together and you can hear the song taking shape in your head. There’s something incredibly rewarding about creating a few lines that can make someone feel understood.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Do I need to have a complete idea for the song?” Not at all. You can come to me with a finished concept, a few lines, a melody, an instrumental, or simply a feeling you want to express. My job is to help shape that starting point into lyrics that feel cohesive, emotional, and true to your vision.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that writing lyrics is simply about finding words that rhyme. Good lyric writing is about understanding emotion, storytelling, character, rhythm, phrasing, and the song’s central idea — then finding the words that make the listener feel something.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask about the song’s main idea, the emotion they want to communicate, the story or message behind it, and who they want the song to speak to. I’ll also ask for any existing lyrics, melodies, instrumental, references, or key phrases they want me to work with. Most importantly, I want to understand what they want the listener to feel when the song ends.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Come with an idea, feeling, story, or even just a few words you want the song to express. You don’t need to have everything figured out — that’s part of what I’m here for. The more clearly you can communicate the emotion and direction you’re looking for, the better I can translate it into lyrics that feel authentic to you.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Sunglasses, sneakers, a great T-shirt, a notebook, and headphones. I might not survive the desert island, but at least I’d look good and probably write a song about it.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My path into songwriting has been unconventional. I began creating music independently, writing lyrics at the age of 14. Since 2023, I've been exploring songwriting, lyric writing, and different ways of bringing ideas to life. Over the years, I’ve written and developed a growing catalog of original songs, while also studying what makes songs emotionally resonant, memorable, and effective. Today, I’m focusing specifically on lyric writing and songwriting, bringing that experience into work created for artists, producers, and other songwriters.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is emotionally driven, vivid, and hook-focused. I like writing lyrics that feel intimate and relatable while using strong imagery, clever phrasing, and a clear emotional point of view. I can move from sensual and playful to vulnerable, confident, dramatic, or cinematic, depending on the artist and the story the song needs to tell.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with Jennifer Lopez because of her ability to bring confidence, sensuality, and personality into pop music. I’d love to write lyrics that complement her strong presence while exploring themes of desire, empowerment, relationships, and self-expression.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Give the vocal and lyrics enough space to breathe. A strong song can lose its impact when the arrangement is too busy, so every musical element should support the emotion, story, and hook rather than compete with them.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I primarily work in pop, electronic pop, dance, and contemporary music, with a particular interest in emotionally driven, hook-focused songs. I also enjoy writing across different moods and styles, from sensual and playful to vulnerable, confident, dramatic, and cinematic.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is turning an emotion or idea into lyrics with a clear emotional point of view and a memorable hook. I’m particularly good at finding the words that make a feeling instantly recognizable and turning it into a song people can connect with.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring emotional clarity, strong concepts, vivid imagery, and memorable hooks to a song. I’m interested in finding the feeling at the heart of an idea and turning it into lyrics that feel personal, relatable, and easy to remember. I also bring a strong sense of storytelling and a distinctive point of view, while keeping the writing connected to the artist’s identity and the song’s purpose.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the artist’s vision, concept, instrumental, melody, or creative brief. From there, I develop the song’s emotional direction and core idea before building the verses, pre-chorus, chorus, and hooks. I focus on strong storytelling, natural phrasing, memorable lines, and making sure every part serves the song’s central emotion. I then share the draft for feedback and refine it through the included revisions.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup is focused on songwriting and lyric writing rather than music production. I work primarily from a quiet writing environment with a computer, headphones, and the tools I need to develop lyrics, song concepts, references, and vocal demos. When working from an existing instrumental or client brief, I focus on finding the right emotional direction, story, phrasing, and hooks for the song.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists and songwriters who know how to turn a strong emotion or concept into something instantly memorable. I’m especially inspired by artists like JLo, Kesha, Charli XCX, Grimes and Billie Eilish for their distinctive voices, sharp songwriting, strong hooks, and ability to create a complete world around a song.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common work I do for clients is writing original lyrics based on their concept, instrumental, melody, or creative brief. I focus on emotionally engaging lyrics, strong concepts, memorable hooks, and a clear point of view that fits the artist and the song.
