Alex Benedetti on SoundBetter

Mixing & Mastering Engineer with 18 years of experience running a professional recording studio in Argentina. Specialized in rock, punk, reggae, jazz and Latin music. I work fully remote with fast turnaround, clear communication and revisions included. My goal is to make your song represent your identity sounding competitive on any platform.

I’m a Mixing and Mastering Engineer with 18 years of hands-on experience running "El Bunker Estudio" a professional recording studio in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of working with artists across many styles, always with the same approach: deep respect for the music and the identity behind it.
I specialize in rock, punk, reggae, jazz and Latin music, but I’m open to any genre where the song needs clarity, emotion and impact. My priority is never to impose a sound, but to understand the artist’s vision and enhance it so the final result feels authentic while sounding competitive on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and every other major platform.
All my work is fully remote. I offer clear and responsive communication, reasonable turnaround times and revisions included, so we can refine the mix or master until it truly represents what you want to express. I’m bilingual (Spanish and English), which makes collaboration smooth with artists from different parts of the world.
If you’re looking for an engineer who listens carefully, respects your art and helps your songs reach their full potential, I’d be happy to work with you.

Interview with Alex Benedetti

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I’m especially proud of the album Mareo by Creciente. We worked very hard on the production and tracking to capture the essence and vibe of the band with the complexity of a live performance. I feel that comes through clearly on the final release, and every time I listen to it I’m proud of what we achieved.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At the moment I’m mixing a complete album for a project called Matar el Mundo. Tomorrow I have a mastering session for a single from a new local band called QR, that I also mixed and co-produced at the studio while tracking.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not yet, I'm just starting on the platform.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both are great tools. I don’t believe one is better than the other — it depends on the song and the situation. I use whatever helps the music the most.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to work closely and clearly with you to reach the goals we set together and meet your real expectations.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I like most about my job is that it’s art. I get to meet so many new artists and help them translate their ideas into finished songs.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: The most common question I get is: “Can you make me sound like Metallica, or Steely Dan, or Pink Floyd (or another big artist)?” My answer is that you’re simply not that band, and the entire process and production behind those records is very different. Keeping that in mind helps set realistic expectations. My job is to help you find your sound and the right flow for your song, not to copy someone else’s.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception is that mixing or mastering can magically transform a flawed recording into a hit song. In reality, I make an artistic interpretation of the material I receive. Cleaning, enhancing and polishing it so the song reaches its fullest and most competitive potential.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask about how the tracks were recorded, what their main goals and expectations are, and if they have any reference songs. Understanding the process before me allows me to explain clearly how I will approach the project.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be clear when you communicate and make sure the files you send are well organized and properly prepared. The clearer the direction and the better the materials, the better the final result will be.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: If I were on a desert island and could only take five pieces of gear, I would choose: A high-quality audio interface (Antelope or Universal Audio) An SSL channel strip A Shure SM57 A reliable computer My MasaMadre monitors by Daniel Ovie With those I could still track, mix and make music at a high level.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been a musician since I was a teenager. When I opened my studio 18 years ago, I had the opportunity to work with many producers I admire, learn from them and share valuable experiences. Throughout this journey I’ve always stayed true to myself and focused on authenticity.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Passionate, detail-oriented and focused on serving the song.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would love to work with Tool. I really admire the technical precision and deep emotional intensity in their music, that combination of complexity and feeling is something I find truly inspiring.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Listen more than you speak. Always stay open to new ideas and take the time to truly understand the artist’s vision before making any decisions. The best results usually come from curiosity and clear communication, not from rigid formulas.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on rock, punk, reggae and Latin music, which are the styles I specialize in. Being based in Argentina and running a busy studio, I’ve also worked with a wide range of other genres over the years, including metal, funk and jazz. I also spent a couple of months working in Los Angeles, which gave me solid experience with hip-hop and urban music.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is understanding what the artist wants and knowing exactly how to use the right tools to achieve it.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring richness, movement and emotional impact to every song. My focus is on making the track feel alive and engaging, so the listener stays hooked and connected to the emotion of the music.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My typical work process starts by carefully listening to the material, regardless of the genre or style. I focus on understanding the artist’s vision and point of view, and then work to maximize that idea while translating it into a clear, detailed and emotionally effective result for the audience. Throughout the process I always prioritize respect for the musicians and the song itself.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I own and run El Bunker, a fully equipped professional recording studio that I built from scratch in downtown Mar del Plata, Argentina. The studio has three specially treated rooms — Control Room, Isolation Room and Main Room — each designed for its specific purpose. The Control Room features custom-made MasaMadre passive monitors by Daniel Ovie, powered by Aria Audio BA 45 amplifiers and controlled through an Ovie Audio uMC monitoring system. This setup is known for its clarity and excellent translation across different playback systems. The studio is equipped with an Antelope Orion 32+ (Gen 4) for AD/DA conversion, a solid selection of analog preamps (including API 3124+ and Millennia HV-35), and outboard compression (Vari-Mu, VCA and FET). We work on Pro Tools with a Mac Studio M2 Max, Avid S3 control surface, and a complete suite of high-end plugins (UAD, FabFilter, Soundtoys, Plugin Alliance, Antelope Synergy Core, among others). It’s a comfortable, versatile and reliable space designed for both tracking and precise mixing/mastering work.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Quincy Jones, Steve Albini, Daniel Ovie, Lucas Gomes, Amilcar Gilabert, Mario Breuer, Rick Rubin, Butch Vig, Ryan Greene, Bob Rock, Pharrell Williams, Dr. Dre,

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The most common work I do for my clients is remote mixing and mastering. I help artists take their recorded tracks and turn them into polished, competitive songs ready for streaming platforms. I also have extensive experience working with artists in the studio — from tracking and sound design to building a strong creative relationship throughout the entire production process.
