Interview with Claude Viar

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: There's no denying what analog brings to a sound. However, I find the flexibility of digital allows me to work more expeditiously, and sometimes I dare say more creatively.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: Promised on time.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: Music has been in my family for generations and being allowed to earn a living honoring that tradition is the greatest gift.

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: I just push the faders.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Finding a producer/engineer can be a lot like dating and it isn't always going to be a match. Find someone that you experience joy in collaborating with who sees your vision, and always be open to growth.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: Assuming Roy Hinkley has devised a way to supply power: Laptop, Audio Interface, Headphones, Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Dynamic Microphone

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I started playing guitar when I was 16, and have been serving as an engineer/producer since 2002.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Save often. Back up always.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Steve Lillywhite

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: Mixing, editing, and mastering.
