Interview with JungHyun
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: To make sure we're on the exact same page, I usually ask a few key questions before diving in: 1. What is the main mood, vibe, or emotional arc of the track? (Any reference songs?) 2. Do you have a specific guitar style or tone in mind, or would you prefer me to experiment and bring some options to the table?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: To get the absolute best results for your track, my biggest piece of advice is to share a clear sonic vision or reference point right from the start. Whether it's a specific guitar tone, a mood, or a vibe from another song, giving me a hint about the overall image helps me capture the exact feel you're looking for much faster. Also, leaving a little bit of space in your demo for the guitar to breathe makes a huge difference in creating a rich, impactful final mix!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I graduated with a major in Practical Music and have been working professionally as a session guitarist, arranger, and instructor for over 6 years. Alongside my session work, I’ve spent around 3 years actively performing in a band, winning multiple awards in band competitions, and building a strong foundation in live performance and groove across various rock and indie scenes.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is melodic, versatile, and deeply focused on mood. Rather than just playing fast notes, I focus on crafting rich guitar textures, immersive spatial depths, and expressive lines that elevate the song's emotional arc—whether it's for a modern pop groove or a driving rock track.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When sending a demo, giving me a hint about the song's overall image and mood makes a huge difference. Sharing a quick reference—like a specific guitar tone or emotional feel from another track—helps me bring the sonic picture you're imagining to life much faster and more accurately!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I primarily work on Pop, K-Pop, Rock, and Indie/Band music. Whether it's laying down solid rhythm tracks or delivering expressive, melodically rich lead lines, I focus on bringing out the best vibe for the song.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is the ability to intuitively capture the exact guitar tone, spatial depth, and emotional mood that a track demands. Rather than just playing notes, I focus on crafting rich, evocative lines that lead the song's emotional arc and make the music truly breathe.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My top priority is to make your song sound bigger, richer, and more alive. I focus on delivering high-end guitar tones, immersive spatial depth, and an authentic band-like energy—ensuring every part elevates your music without crowding the mix.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: 1. Discussion: We review your track's BPM, key, reference tracks, and your specific sonic vision. 2. Recording: I record 2-3 tailored guitar options (rhythm, lead, and fills) to give you choices. 3. Review: I send an MP3 preview for your feedback and make any necessary adjustments. 4. Delivery: Once approved, I deliver full 24-bit WAV stems (Processed tones + Raw DIs) ready for mix down.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My primary DAW is Ableton Live, paired with a Kemper Profiling Amp to deliver world-class studio tones efficiently. I record using high-end guitars including Suhr Modern Satin and Fender Custom Shop models. For deliverables, I provide pristine 24-bit WAV stems (both Processed tones and Raw DIs) for flexible mixing.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I get a lot of inspiration from various iconic Korean and international bands such as The 1975, ONE OK ROCK, FKJ, and Tom Misch. I love how they blend guitar-driven hooks with modern band arrangements and progressive production styles.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in recording commercial-quality electric and acoustic guitar tracks for Pop, K-Pop, Rock, RnB tracks. I handle everything from tight rhythm guitar parts and hooky lead melodies to full-track guitar arrangements that elevate raw demos into polished production.
