Remote Edit/Mixing/Mastering

Jesse Flores on SoundBetter

Producer of Grunge/shoegaze band, Reveries (of Cardigan Records). Offering local Recording services, as well as remote editing/mixing/mastering services. My works have been praised by listeners, curators, tastemakers, and Record Labels alike. Both of my commercial releases have found playtime on many respectable shoegaze blogs and radio stations

Hi there, I'm Jesse, the producer/engineer/member of Reveries, a PNW-Based Grunge/shoegaze band. My 1st commercially released project, "Reveries" self-titled EP, grabbed the attention of the shoegaze community for its sonic palette and walls of sound production which later landed the band a spot on the Cardigan Records roster where their 2nd EP (my second commercially released project), "To Find Me Again" was released, featuring song "Find Me" which is one of the band's flagship and defining tracks.

I'm now offering up my recording services to local/regional projects as well as remote editing/mixing/mastering services. Whether it's manually editing/tuning vocals, or re-amping guitar DIs, I can work with you to meet your project's unique needs.

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Interview with Jesse Flores

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm working on a Full-length album release for Reveries and a solo/side project.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both and either. There's advantages and disadvantages to each. Whichever best completes the objective at hand is the correct tool for the job.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: That it's simply just recording, doing a quick volume balance, then exporting and you're done. Editing/tuning is cheating/selling-out.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: A Guitar, laptop, a 8-input Audio interface, a SM57 drum mic kit, and a Quad Cortex.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I am a 9-to-5er by day and a hobbyist producer by night. I started dabbling with DIY production around 2017 and there's been no looking back.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: I guess my productions would be considered modern-sounding? I like to make music in-time with itself but not grided, and to sound "real" but the most elevated, commercially comparative version of itself. It is a delicate balance of blending live-tracked instruments with tastefully layered samples or amp modeler/plugin tones (when necessary).

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Maturing is realizing its good to practice playing to a metronome. It's not soulless, it's not losing the war against machines, it makes you a better player and shines light on your rhythmic blind spots and allows you to correct them and be the tightest player you can be.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: Music under the Rock umbrella is what I listen to, and it's what I like to work on. However, I have done a good amount of work on mixing and mastering electronic/experimental tracks.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: Patience. While I have my preferences and workflows, I am open to setting aside my processes for the sake of creative exploration. When I'm hired to collaborate with an artist, I foster the creation process over being mechanical and systematic. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and we learn together.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: As I am a musician first, and an engineer second, I get creative inspirations while working on songs and can offer direction, additional elements, as well as harmony creations and post-production.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: I'm flexible on meeting client needs and accommodating to their projects and how they best can produce the best version of their performances. Usually, I'll start with Tracking Drums first, then guitars/bass next, then vocals. I've done this to clicks, and without clicks. While having a click is a preferred, I have worked with bands who prefer the natural groove of their drummer and had a successful outcome.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: I have a home studio where the majority of my work is done, but I have a mobile rig allowing for on-location recording and meeting client's where they and their needs are at.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: Aside from my own projects, I have worked with other bands producing their music from the ground up. From recording demos, to full blown productions. I also have repeat clients for mastering work and session work.
