Eric Abel on SoundBetter

Experienced songwriter, topliner, and vocalist who can help you take your project to the next level!

Hey there,

My name is Eric Abel and I'm a songwriting specialist from Atlanta, Georgia. I have been writing music since the age of 15 years old, and since have helped several artists bring their projects to fruition by sharpening up their records with high quality melodies and lyrics that are sure to set them apart. I am a music artist myself, so I take the utmost care when I write to ensure the track works perfectly for both the artist and their respective audience.

I recently studied at the Berklee College of Music where I teamed up with several of the best songwriters in the business to sharpen my craft. I am most suited to write in urban and contemporary pop genres, but also love writing on the ballad and dark pop end of the spectrum as well. Please take a look at the soundcloud link for a playlist of my work references, in addition to the track posted!

I am a music lover through and through, and rest assured that I put my all into every project I touch.

Eric and I are both in school so we had a lot of time conflicts. But this man will do what ever is needed to get the song as perfect as possible. I’ll definitely be working with him again.

Eric is a super solid urban/pop songwriter and an incredible topliner. His lyrics, melodies and vocal performance are off the charts. He has written music for me in many occasions and he's always been fast and easy to work with. I will absolutely continue working with him in the future.

Interview with Eric Abel

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Two Young Kids, a song I released on Spotify, is definitely one of my favorites. Sometime a track just comes together way better than you could have dreamed and you're like, "wow, I did this". I just felt the song did really well at capturing my intended feeling for it, and the background track came together perfectly.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: So much stuff! I'm so excited because I'm currently in the midst of a handful of projects that I'll be releasing under my name. Working with some incredible talent from Berklee as well.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I worked with Taylor Franklyn on a track. Great producer and engineer.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I promise that I will do the best I am capable of to get your song where you want it!

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I get to write music! How cool is that?

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What do you want in this song? Do you have any tracks you want to emulate in this work? How do you want your audience to feel?

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Make sure you have your vision. I have been both a client and a provider on this site now and I feel the most important thing you can do is have some sense of direction for where you want to go. Providers would love to be able to read your mind, but unfortunately they can't, so if they don't know what you are looking for they will probably miss the mark you set in your head.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Easy! My Macbook, hard drive, Apogee desk mic, a pair of headphones, and my Juno midi synthesizer.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I'm a pretty random guy. I study Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, but also spent time studying at the Berklee College of Music intermittently. I don't know where I'll end up career wise after graduating, but I know it will involve some sort of creativity in music and engineering.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: I would love to work with Charlie Puth. He has an incredible knack for all things musical. Killer vocalist, killer writer, killer musician.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Don't tell your listener everything! If you want to tell a story, you have to lend some things to imagination. You can write a song about brushing your teeth that a listener interprets as a heartbreak track if you relieve focus from specificity and focus on emotion.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: I mostly stick to pop. That said, pop is a wildly diverse genre and I think I can handle anything from urban to dark to piano ballad pop well.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I believe that I have a high quality writing style. I think I can get on most tracks in the pop genre and add ear catching vocals and melodies.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: I typically start by trying to get in the headspace of the artist I am writing for. I try to feel what they might feel and then emulate that emotion. When writing, I generally start by conjuring a melody that grabs my attention. After that, I go in and write the lyrics around some sort of theme, and try to keep the cadence and delivery fresh.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: I really like the work of Poo Bear, Bruno Mars, and Sia. These are all incredibly versatile writers that have lended their hand to some of the greatest works of our time.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: I mostly do toplining, when someone gives me a track they need lyrics and melody for. This can happen in collaboration with an artist or on my own, just depends on the preference.
