Interview with Jay Bishop / Late Pass Music
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Macbook Pro. Native Instruments Maschine is my workhorse. All my writing is done there then moved to Reaper for completion.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip Hop, Funk, Traditional R&B.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: A boost to your kick drum at 64 hertz can work wonders.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: The sum of my main influences. J Dilla, Jam & Lewis, LA & Babyface, Teddy Riley. Raw & Funky on the bottom & pretty on the top.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. I work almost exclusively "in the box" aside from occasional bass & guitar work. I just love the convenience of being able to take a project from start to finish all on my laptop.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A new album from my electronic music group Watts Club. Hope to have it out in July.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My album "All That To Get To This" which I wrote and produced myself. I was able to create a work that express my creative ideas on a wide spectrum while also working with outside artists, which until then I never really did.
