Interview with Bole
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My best advice would be to look for a collaborator who truly understands the cultural nuances and specific sonic requirements of your genre, rather than just focusing on flashy equipment lists. When looking to hire a provider like me, take the time to listen closely to how the vocals sit in the mix and how the low-end translates across different sound systems. Lastly, make sure your raw recordings and arrangements are as clean as possible before handing them over, and come prepared with clear reference tracks; a legendary final product is always built on a strong, honest, and collaborative foundation.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as a deliberate balance between dark, atmospheric textures and crisp, hard-hitting commercial energy. Because I look at music from multiple perspectives—as a producer, an engineer, and a vocalist—my style is highly holistic. I love creating deep, heavy low-end dynamics and contrasting them with wide, lush, and pristine high frequencies, ensuring every track retains a distinct modern bounce while maintaining an immersive, cinematic depth.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Two of my best friends realeased a colab album "LOCO" where a produced some songs, sing in one and mix and mastered every track. That album is special to me because of how fun it was to make and made memorable memories.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment I am in the recording stage of my first album "CHRONOSTASIS", where I am responsible for the entire production, singing, mixing and mastering.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I have the utmost respect for the incredible community of professionals on this platform. However, to maintain the absolute highest level of focus and ensure a unified sonic vision, I prefer to handle my clients' production, mixing, and mastering needs end-to-end myself.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I respect both worlds, but my workflow is strictly digital because modern Hip-Hop, Trap, and R&B demand incredible surgical precision and lightning-fast efficiency. Today's high-end digital tools allow for endless creative possibilities and perfect session recalls, which is an undeniable advantage when collaborating with busy artists who need quick adjustments on tight deadlines. Despite all of that I might try some analog pieces to continue expanding my knowledge.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to every client is an unyielding commitment to sonic quality, transparent communication, and complete satisfaction. I take immense pride in delivering work that stands toe-to-toe with major label releases, and I do not consider a project finished until the artist is genuinely excited and proud of the final master.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I enjoy most about my job is that precise moment during a mix session when everything suddenly clicks together. Taking raw, unpolished vocal tracks and shaping them until the 808 drops perfectly, the vocals cut through with clarity, and the entire song suddenly feels alive, powerful, and ready for the world is incredibly rewarding.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: One of the most common questions I get from clients is whether I can make their recorded vocals sound like a specific major artist. I always let them know that while we can absolutely replicate industry-standard compression chains, autotune speeds, and spatial effects, my approach is to adapt those techniques to highlight and complement the unique tone of their own voice.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception about what I do is the belief that mixing or mastering alone can transform a poorly recorded or badly arranged song into a radio-ready hit. While engineering plays a massive role in enhancing and polishing a track, achieving a competitive, professional sound requires quality at every single stage—from the initial songwriting and vocal performance to the final master.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I typically ask prospective clients a few key questions to lock into their vision before opening a session. I will ask if they have any reference tracks, what specific emotion they want the vocals to convey, and if their stems are exported completely dry. This guarantees we are on the exact same page creatively and technically from day one.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop, audio interface, Shure SM7B, great headphones and a mouse.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started beatmaking in 2020, fast forward 2 or 3 years felt curious about singing and through the last few years of struggling making my songs sound good I ended up learing many things and falling even more in love with music.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love the opportunity to collaborate with J Cole. His projects represent the absolute pinnacle of sonic purity and intimate vocal experimentation in the modern era. Working alongside artists of that caliber would be an inspiring creative challenge, pushing the boundaries of engineering, texture design, and unconventional mix arrangements.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One of the most valuable music production tips I can share is to not be fearful about your own ideas, instead enhance them and bring them to life.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I primarily work on Trap, Hip-Hop, and R&B, focusing on modern urban sub-genres ranging from melodic rap to dark, atmospheric beats. Over the years, immersing myself in these specific styles has allowed me to develop a highly specialized ear for the nuances of modern vocal tuning, complex drum programming, and the intricate spatial effects that define today's hits.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my creative versatility within the Hip-Hop, Trap, and R&B genres. I have a specialized ability to achieve the perfect balance between massive, hard-hitting low-end frequencies and crystal-clear, intimate vocal presence. Pushing boundaries to make a mix sound both aggressive and incredibly clean without ever becoming muddy or harsh is where my craft truly shines.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I aim to bring a distinct commercial energy, modern bounce, and absolute sonic polish to every song I touch. As an engineer who is deeply immersed in urban culture, I don't just balance volume levels; I help shape the emotional and artistic identity of the track. I know exactly how an 808 needs to hit to move a club sound system and how a modern R&B vocal needs to float to completely captivate the listener.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process involves dedicating focused, individual attention to one song at a time to ensure no detail is overlooked. When producing or mixing, I start by analyzing the track—ensuring the understanding the tracks motive—before moving to vocal processing and leveling. I maintain constant communication with the client throughout the major stages of the project, delivering a meticulous final product that respects their original vision while elevating the technical quality.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is built for speed, absolute digital precision, and modern workflow demands. I work entirely hybrid across an optimized system running both FL Studio and Pro Tools, allowing me to switch seamlessly between creative beat production and surgical audio engineering. I mix entirely in-the-box using industry-standard tools from Universal Audio, FabFilter, Soundtoys, and oeksound, which ensures pristine signal control, incredible detail, and perfect recall capability for every single session.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am deeply inspired by visionary producers and engineers like Jaycen Joshua, Leslie Brathwaite, and Mike Dean. Each of them has redefined the landscape of modern urban music through their unique approach to sonic textures, vocal atmospheres, and low-end control. Their ability to innovate while maintaining massive emotional depth and clarity is something that constantly influences my own production and mixing philosophy.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I primarily provide a comprehensive range of audio production services tailored to the urban music scene, including custom beat production, recording engineering, mixing, and mastering. My work focus is heavily centered on helping independent Hip-Hop, Trap, and R&B artists build their tracks from the ground up, ensuring that the final sonic identity meets the strict quality standards required for digital streaming platforms and radio play.
