Hey, I'm a singer, songwriter, and producer who has been in love with music all of my life. I'm looking to complement other creatives and to write for creatives who may be stuck or who want a different feel from what they are used to.
Hey, I'm a singer, songwriter, and producer who has been in love with music all of my life. I'm looking to complement other creatives and to write for creatives who may be stuck or who want a different feel from what they are used to.
I write soul, pop, and jazz-influenced songs that provide a unique feel as it relates to originality. I'm old school but not a dinosaur ;) I've worked with, learned from, and I'm friends with many producers over the years (Paul Laurence, Fred McFarlane, Carl T Smith, Richard Ball, aka GetRichard, and Alister Wu from Midnite Studios).
Storytelling in songs is very important, and that is also one of my strengths as a lyricist and melody creator.

Interview with Charles Cary
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: "Sucka 4 Love" is my most recent project, and "Cary'sMatic" is increasingly becoming my best works. I wrote and produced 85% of the material and did a few collaborations. It seems the longer I'm in the game, the better my production skills have become.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently promoting my most recent 12-song project.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not to my knowledge.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: While I appreciate the warmth and character of analog equipment, I believe digital tools offer superior flexibility and precision. Modern digital technology allows for incredibly accurate emulation of classic analog gear, giving me the best of both worlds: the vintage aesthetic clients love with the efficiency and recallability required for a fast-paced professional workflow.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Your job is being treated with a unique and serious focus. We will work within the guidelines to ensure you get what you want.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating and satisfying my clients.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long will it take to finish? Turnaround times vary depending on the scope and complexity of each individual project. Providing comprehensive details and clear direction at the outset allows me to streamline the process and ensure a more efficient and timely delivery.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That its easy and that it's hard.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's your initial idea? What type of tempo? What artists remind you of what you'd like? Will there be other songs to accompany this project?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Clarity is key. When people can describe what they are looking for as best as possible, it helps so that the journey is not aimless and it allows the creative process to be cohesive. When that does not happen, it can drain motivation, innovation, and the ability to get the job done in a reasonable timeframe.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If I were stranded on a desert island and could only bring five pieces of gear, I would choose a canteen for survival, a hat for sun protection, sturdy footwear for exploration, a reliable compass for navigation, and a multi-purpose tool for versatility.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I spent most of my professional life in a stifling administrative career, but everything changed when I transitioned into public speaking and authorship. Through this shift, I discovered my greatest strength: the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling, resonant narratives that truly connect with an audience. Whether I am writing or speaking, my focus is on clarity, authenticity, and emotional impact.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm totally organic. Mad feel! I sort of lose myself in production.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Will i Am, Timberlake, Tank, Kem, or Bruno Mars.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Yes, simply feel the experience of what the song is conveying.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I specialize primarily in producing and mixing mid-tempo tracks and emotive ballads.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skills are melody and lyrics.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the core origin of the song to life, usually through lived experience or something deeply relatable. I focus on finding the emotional pulse of a track and enhancing it so that the listener doesn't just hear the music—they feel the intention behind it. By anchoring the production in raw human emotion and authentic storytelling, I ensure that every arrangement and sound choice serves the narrative, turning a simple concept into a resonant, professional-grade production. Key Value Propositions: * **Emotional Depth:** Prioritizing the "why" behind the lyrics to ensure the song connects on a personal level. * **Narrative Focus:** Shaping the sonic landscape to support the core message of the track. * **Authenticity:** Using relatable, real-world experiences to guide creative decisions and performance direction. * **Attention to Detail:** Polishing the technical aspects of the mix while maintaining the soul of the original composition.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My workflow can vary depending on how the inspiration lands on me. I usually look to the beat to inspire the rest of the composition, but there are times when the lyrics tell me what to do.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a pair of KRK speakers, an MPK 249 CONTROLLER, and an ALESIS CONTROLLER. I use Logic Pro X, with a solid-state drive interface and a dual-monitor setup. When I use samples, I've used Splice or LANDR.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I've learned a great deal from pioneers like David Foster, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Quincy Jones.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My primary focus is songwriting, where I specialize in crafting meaningful lyrics and pairing them with melodies that perfectly capture the emotional core of a song. I thrive on the collaborative process of translating a client's vision into a cohesive, impactful composition.
