Interview with Saint Meko
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Grace is sufficient for me is a record that healed me from depression I was battling since 16. I wrote the lyrics, created the melody, and recorded it. That record changed my life and showed me the healing power of music.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Alongside client work, I'm continuing to develop my own music as an artist and songwriter while exploring new ways to use music as a tool for human connection and healing.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Great ideas are timeless, regardless of how they're captured. The emotion is analog. The tools simply help bring it to life.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: A relatable, vibey, earworm delivered in 2 days or less.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The opportunity to create something that makes another person feel seen, understood, or inspired.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you help if I only have an idea? Absolutely. Many great songs begin with nothing more than a feeling, a sentence, or a story.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people think songwriting is simply putting words together. In reality, it's translating emotion into something another person can feel.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: • What emotion should the listener feel? • What inspired this song? • Are there any reference tracks? • What parts of your story are most important? • Do you want me to create a direction or you want to control the number of verses or structure of the record.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who understands not only what you want to say, but how you want people to feel when they hear it, and the trance you want to take your listeners out of or into.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My voice and my mind would honestly be enough. Songs begin there before they exist anywhere else.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been writing songs since I was eight years old. Songwriting started as a personal form of expression and eventually became a craft I dedicated myself to developing professionally.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Emotional, reflective, melodic, honest, and human.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I don't know until I meet them because it's all down to having that connection first, understanding their vision, and seeing how I can help create the sonic world they want their listeners to live in.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Before production, ask yourself: "What is this song trying to make someone feel?" The strongest productions amplify an emotion that already exists in the writing.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, Rhythm and Blues, Alternative Pop, trance, acoustic, and electronic music (edm, dance, trance, funk).
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Writing emotionally resonant lyrics and memorable melodies that listeners remember after the song ends. To simplify I would say, I make earworms.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Emotion, clarity, memorable hooks, and perspective. I aim to create songs that feel personal while remaining relatable and have a high replay value.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the emotion, story, or message behind the song. Then I develop lyrical concepts, melodies, hooks, and structure before refining everything into a polished final product.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is built around songwriting first. I focus on capturing ideas quickly, developing strong melodies, and refining lyrics.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I admire artists who make listeners feel something real. Writers like Ed Sheeran, John Legend, Billie Eilish, Juice wrld, and Shiloh Dynasty inspire me because of their honesty and emotional storytelling.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I help artists and producers transform ideas, emotions, and experiences into complete songs through lyrics, melodies, and toplines.
