I am a mixing and mastering engineer with a specialization in acoustic music. Artists I've done that received niche chart and Billboard recognition include Midnight Run, Boone and Foster, The Burnett Sisters Band, as well as several others. It is my goal to help you get your project polished and ready for release from start to finish.
My name is Troy Boone, I am an audio professional based out of Johnson City, TN. My studio, Bearberry Audio has been open for the last 5 years, but I have 15+ years of experience in audio ranging from recording, editing, mixing and mastering. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Audio Production and I am Avid Pro Tools Certified. While I love all genres, I have a knack for bluegrass and acoustic music. I am a professional session musician as well, offering guitar, upright bass, mandolin, banjo and vocal to your project if need be. I have played and recorded music nearly all my life and wish to help you deliver the best musical venture we possibly can. I believe I have a great ear for production, arrangement, and quality, and assure you that given the opportunity, I will exceed your expectations and work with you to make your musical dreams a reality.
I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Troy Boone
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Boone and Foster, Smokey Mountain Favorites. I recorded, edited, mixed, mastered, sang, and played on this album. It is my proudest feat in this line of work yet!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Two gospel bluegrass albums for Mountain Fever Records, a personal project, and always writing!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I do not know of other friends who use this platform, but I will be telling all of my friends!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both! Gotta have both in today’s world, but ideally I want a primarily vintage analog signal chain in the future.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I will do whatever I can to make your project the best it can be, until it’s perfect in your eyes.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating something personal that others can relate to is the greatest thing in the world. It’s hard to consider it a job, but a passion.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long have you been playing? (My whole life!) How often do you work on audio? (Everyday) What is your dogs name? (Polly) How much money do you have in gear? (N/A)
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People often think mixing is just balancing faders and applying EQ. While I do a lot of that, a good song is far more complicated and likely needs minimal adjustment if the capture was good, and the talent is excellent.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your goal? What is your vision? Do you believe in the project enough to make me believe in it with you? Where did you record? Did you write your material?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Hire me, I’m cooler than the other options!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: MacBook, interface, headphones, microphone, Guitar.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started engineering in high school (2008) and started taking it very seriously in 2010. 18 years!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Smooth yet subjective.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Billy Strings, because he has take bluegrass and marketed to a totally new generation, likely saving it entirely.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don’t buy new plugins if you do not understand the ones you already have!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Acoustic music/Bluegrass
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Musical production, arrangement alterations that make redundancy into fresh harmonization and chord structure.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Life.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to get in a good headspace by clear communication on expectations with my clients, and then referencing material they are striving to be similar to. Then I organize all files and make clean sessions. Performing a mix or master is an art as much as a musical performance is, so I try to let creativity guide my decisions, so my ears can be the judge.
