Interview with JAW

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: A project I worked on that I was proud of was an EP for an artist that goes by Mario G, in which I was very excited to be working on because of the positive content the songs were about. My role was to mix and master the EP.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently I am working on expanding my career as an audio engingeer with the goal of one day opening a full-on recording studio that provides recording, mixing, mastering, video editing, and podcast services.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I unfortunately do not know anyone on SoundBetter as I am new to the platform.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog, although I don't have the equipment yet, I have noticed a huge difference in the quality of sound. Analog often sounds crisper, warmer, louder, and more high quality in general.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise I will create your vision to the best of my ability!

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The creative aspect of it and helping elevate other artists while getting to know their story.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How many years of experience do I have, in which my answer is 2 years of audio engineering so far, 10 years total in music!

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Most people misinterpret an audio engineer for a music producer (someone who makes beats).

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Is there a specific way you like your song to be mixed or sound?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Don't be afraid to tell me what you're dreaming about for the song! I'll create it to the best of my ability!!

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Computer, interface, XLR cable, mic stand, and microphone.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: Originally, I wanted to be a music artist. I still am, however i've shifted most of my focus into audio engineering and have made a solid career out of it so far!

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style of engineering is trying to make the song very catchy and create ear candy through the use of pitch correction, reverb, delay, and beat drops at crucial points in the song.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Present day, I'd say it would be very cool to work with Logic because of his dynamic flows and lyricism, along with his seemingly chill vibe.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Parallel processing and automation are key to making a professional sounding song! On your parallel processing auxes, add an EQ to lock in the sound you're wanting even more!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I typically work on hip hop, trap, and r&b music.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is that I am passionate about my craft and care about creating a song that my client and everyone will enjoy listening to!

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: To a song I bring high quality through premium plugins, beat drops, and a master that is loud and clear enough for it to be a hit whether it's played from your phone, the radio, or concert speakers!

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Load in beat and gert the tempo, clean up vocal breathes, then make the vocals cleaner through Melodyne or Auto Tune, compression, EQ, etc. Afterwards I add reverb and delay, followed by my mastering chain and a few secret methods to enhance the quality of the song!

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Pro Tools, M2 interface, Macbook, and two Yamaha HS7 monitors!

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I take inspiration from the likes of 2pac, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Vandelux, Logic, Mac Miller, and Juice WRLD!

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Mix and Master my clients songs using premium plugins and the software Pro Tools to help shape their vision for the song into reality!
