Interview with NTRNT

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I am actively writing and recording new material to further define my signature vocal sound. When I am not in the studio tracking ethereal top-lines or writing intricate narratives for my own releases, I dedicate my time to taking on select vocal collaborations and applying my marketing studies to help clients build successful release strategies

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Being the missing puzzle piece. Producers pour so much time into crafting the perfect beat, and I love being the person who steps in to elevate it with an industry-standard vocal arrangement and a compelling story. There is nothing better than delivering a top-line that perfectly captures the emotion the producer was aiming for but couldn't articulate themselves.

  5. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  6. A: Question: "Will you be a featured artist on my release?" Answer: "Usually, no. I typically act as an uncredited vocalist and writer unless we specifically negotiate a featured appearance. This gives you complete creative control over your artist branding and release strategy, while still getting an industry-standard, high-fidelity pop-trap vocal on your track."

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: That the work is finished once the final mix is bounced. A lot of artists believe that a great song will simply market itself. Because of my background in marketing, I know that finishing the vocal is only half the battle. The biggest misconception is underestimating how much strategy, branding, and audience targeting is required to make sure the song actually gets heard after we finish recording it.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: The Vibe: What are 2-3 reference tracks that capture the sonic direction and vocal texture you are looking for? The Narrative: What is the core emotional message or story you want this song to convey? The Tech: What is the BPM and Key of the instrumental? The Strategy: Who is your target audience, and what is your goal for this release? (e.g., Lead single, EP focus track, sync placement). The Logistics: What is your ideal timeline for completion?

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Come to the table with a clear vision, but remain open to the creative process. The best collaborations start with strong communication. Bring a few sonic references (like Don Toliver, Swae Lee, or Drake) and a general idea of the emotional story you want to tell. Also, think about your target audience—knowing who the song is for helps me tailor not just the top-line, but the rollout strategy we discuss afterward.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: My journey started in Detroit, where I first began developing my vocal style and pen, before ultimately relocating to Phoenix to expand my reach. I have been writing and recording music for years, but the major turning point in my career was graduating from the Los Angeles Academy for Artists & Music Production (LAAMP). That intensive program took my raw ear for melody and refined it to a strict, industry-standard level. For the past couple of years, I have been operating entirely in this high-fidelity, commercial space as a vocalist and top-liner, while concurrently studying marketing to better understand the business side of the industry.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: My style is best described as "Angelic Trap" and "Bubblegum Trap." I specialize in the juxtaposition of ethereal, airy vocal melodies and intricate storytelling against a backdrop of heavy, hard-hitting production. It is highly polished, emotionally resonant, and designed to bring a massive pop sensibility to modern trap.

  17. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  18. A: Digital. The "Angelic Trap" and modern pop-trap sound require incredible precision, speed, and complex vocal automation. A fully digital workflow allows me to deliver the high-fidelity, polished sound that today's industry demands, while keeping turnarounds fast and efficient for my clients.

  19. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  20. A: I promise to deliver an industry-standard, emotionally resonant vocal performance that elevates your production. You will get clear, professional communication from start to finish, and a collaborator who cares just as much about the song's commercial success as its creative execution.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: Drake or Don Toliver. They both understand how to seamlessly blend massive, ethereal melodic concepts with heavy, forward-thinking production, which aligns perfectly with my own sonic identity.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Don't treat your vocal arrangement as an afterthought. A great track isn't just about a heavy 808; it's about how the vocal sits in the pocket, drives the narrative, and creates memorable moments. Always write and arrange your vocals with the final mix in mind.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: Primary Genres: Hip-Hop, Trap, Pop, and Alternative R&B. Specialty: "Angelic Trap" and "Bubblegum Trap"—blending high-fidelity, airy pop melodies with heavy 808s and gritty, narrative-driven lyricism.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: Crafting infectious, ethereal top-lines paired with gritty, narrative-driven lyricism.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: I bring a unique combination of high-fidelity vocal performance, intricate songwriting, and strategic vision. My foundation from LAAMP ensures that every vocal I track is industry-standard, pristine, and ready for your mix. Creatively, I deliver captivating, airy melodies anchored by a grounded, emotional core—the definitive "Angelic Trap" sound. Beyond the music itself, my background in marketing means I approach every collaboration with the final audience in mind, ensuring your track isn't just sonically perfect, but rollout-ready.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: Alignment: We discuss your sonic references, the emotional core of the track, and your target audience. Creation: I write and track the top-line or lyrics, providing a rough reference mix for your approval. Refinement: We utilize up to two included revisions to ensure the vibe is perfect. Delivery: I deliver perfectly consolidated, dry vocal stems ready for your engineer. Strategy: Once the song is locked, we can discuss artist branding and rollout strategy to help position the release.

  33. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  34. A: I run a modern, streamlined digital workflow utilizing Pro Tools and FL Studio within the Apple ecosystem. My setup is optimized specifically for high-fidelity vocal capture and intricate arranging, ensuring that every stem I deliver is pristine, meticulously tuned, and completely mix-ready for modern pop and trap standards.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: My most requested services are full top-line writing (melody and lyrics) and tracking high-quality lead vocals and harmonies. Producers usually bring me a finished or near-finished beat, and I provide the infectious hook, the emotional narrative, and the polished vocal performance needed to complete the record.
