If Brooklyn’s DNA could be distilled into a voice; gritty yet graceful, raw yet refined; it would sound like AKila K. She moves with the echoes of Nas, Jay-Z, MC Lyte, and A Tribe Called Quest in her bloodstream, fusing golden era lyricism with a next gen vision. From the pulse of NYC Carnival Weekend to the beats that built the borough, her artistry is both homage and evolution. Her EP Hear Me Out… introduced the world to her sonic tapestry, with Grabba making waves on IRAP 365. Her last album, Hear Me Out… I SAID WHAT I SAID! flipped the indie playbook, pushing boundaries and expectations alike. Recently, she joined forces with fellow NYC artist E. Nigma, to give us their joint EP, Almost There, the soundtrack of their birth place, New York City. The lead single, aNYtime, aNYwhere, is currently in rotation on RapRx Radio. With that, AKila K isn’t just another name in the mix, she’s the next chapter in NYC’s Hip Hop continuum, carrying the torch and igniting new flames.

Interview with AKila K
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My steelpan, my laptop, a microphone with a pop filter, some headphones, and a notebook
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae/Dancehall, and Soca. Those are the genres I grew listening to. When first got into songwriting, those were the sounds and concepts I based my talents on.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring relatability, fun, substance, and structure. I write from the heart on whatever the concept is because, I've either lived it, or I know someone who has, so the perspective is coming from a place of honesty. When people can feel like the song is talking to or specifically for them, we have achieved the true essence of music; a song that is for whomever hears it.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in songwriting for people looking to get a full, fleshed out song. I can also come up with song concepts if you need assistance with getting the foundation of the song solidified. With me, your song will have a catchy hook, fun and engaging verses, and an overall relatable structure that'll resonate with everyone who hears it.
