Songwriter, topliner, lyricist, and multi-instrumentalist with eclectic experience from garage punk grit to introspective indie folk by way of post-hardcore intricacy. Interview with Joel Moffatt

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with legendary bassist Mike Watt Of Minutemen and fIREHOSE fame. I love his playing and writing style. And that he pops u[ on all kinds of projects making all kinds of different sounds. I that he does music for the same reasons I do. I think he would be a hell of a hang, too.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I came up in the Philadelphia suburbs playing and booking punk shows at local youth centers, VFWs, and fire halls. I've always felt compelled to create, Explorer, and expand my sonic horizons. I evolved into post-hardcore with more intricate and angular lines and layers. For the last decade I have collaborated on a number of projects including lyrics and melodies for an international Brazilian artist that took both of us into new territories of art and music. In 2025 Exotic Fever Records released the album I recorded as The Lovers of Nothing.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I typically work on either upbeat indie rock or artful post-hardcore, or more introspective indie folk. Lately, I have enjoyed writing country songs, and pop tunes.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Lyrics are really important to me. While the melody can help underscore them, I always strive to write lyrics that meet the moment, can stand alone on the page without the music, work as a unified peice, have layers of meaning, and have lines you'd be OK wearing on a shirt or a tattoo.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Bring a genuine collaborative interest in what you are trying to create and what we can unlock together and learn from each other.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'll write the full bones of a song to a brief or help obliterate the barriers to getting the melody and lyrics just right while staying true to your voice and your vision. And we will keep the energy and passion intact throughout the process.
