Interview with BIG Haszel
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of is “Ballotelli 2” by Pearse ft. Hunny Boy. My role on the record was both as a sound engineer and creative contributor handling the sound direction, refining the overall mix, and making sure the energy of the track felt cohesive from start to finish. I focused on balancing the vocals with the instrumental so the emotion and performance stood out clearly without losing impact. What made this project special for me was how much personality and energy the artists brought in. My job was to shape that raw energy into a clean, powerful, and release-ready record while still keeping its original vibe intact. It was one of those sessions where everything came together naturally, and the final result reflected exactly what we all envisioned.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently working on engineering my own EP titled "Two Face of Love" which is an R&B collection and will be out soon.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'm new here.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I work fully in digital because it gives me speed, precision, and full creative control over every detail of a track. It allows me to move quickly, make clean adjustments, and achieve a modern, polished sound that fits Afrobeats, trap, and R&B. For me, digital isn’t a limitation it’s the most efficient way to stay flexible, accurate, and consistent while still delivering industry-ready results.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to treat every project with care, attention, and honesty like it’s my own release. I focus on delivering clean, emotional, and professional-quality sound while staying true to your vision. I’ll communicate clearly, listen to your feedback, and make sure the final result feels right not just technically correct, but creatively satisfying.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It's my hobby.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Most clients usually ask how long a project will take, what I need from them to get started, and how many revisions are included. I typically tell them that timelines depend on the complexity of the track, but I always aim for a fast yet detailed turnaround. To get started, I just need the audio files, reference tracks, and a clear idea of the sound or emotion they’re going for. I also make sure they know I’m open to feedback, so we can refine the track until it feels right.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: A common misconception is that mixing, mastering, or production is just about making a song “louder” or adding effects. In reality, it’s about balance, emotion, and clarity making sure every part of the record supports the feeling and vision of the song. Another one is that it’s a quick, one-step process. Good sound takes communication, refinement, and attention to detail to really get it right.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask what vibe or emotion you want the song to carry, plus a few reference tracks so I understand your sound direction. I also check what stage the track is in and if there’s anything specific you want me to focus on in the mix or production. It helps me align quickly so we can build the record together smoothly.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: The best results come when we treat it like a collaboration. Don’t worry about sounding “perfect” when you’re explaining your idea just share the vibe, reference tracks, and what you feel the song should express. That’s more than enough to get started. I also encourage open communication throughout the process. If something doesn’t feel right or you want adjustments, speak up early we can shape the sound together until it fits your vision. Think of me as part of your creative team: you bring the idea, I help bring it to life in a clean, professional, and emotionally true way.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A laptop with my full DAW (because silence is nice… but unfinished beats are stressful), a solid audio interface so everything actually sounds like music and not “island recordings,” a condenser mic for when inspiration hits at 3am and I start singing to coconuts, studio headphones for pretending I’m still in civilization, and a MIDI controller so I can turn palm trees into drum kits if needed. Realistically, as long as I have those five, I’m not stranded I’m just “recording in an eco-inspired studio.”LOL
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started releasing my own singles as BIG Haszel in 2023 and started sound engineering 2022.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: R&B, Trap and AfroSounds
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is blending creative direction with technical precision to deliver clean, emotional, and industry-ready sound.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a balance of creativity and technical precision. As both an artist and sound engineer, I understand how to shape a record from its emotional core to its final polished sound. I focus on enhancing the mood, clarity, and energy of a track making sure every element serves the feeling of the song. Whether it’s mixing, mastering, or creative input, I aim to elevate the record without losing its original identity. My goal is simple: to make each song sound intentional, professional, and ready for release while keeping its emotional impact intact.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: start by understanding the client’s vision, reference tracks, and the emotional direction of the project. Once I have clarity, I move into arranging and refining the sound with attention to both creativity and technical precision. For engineering work, I handle editing, mixing, and/or mastering with a focus on clarity, balance, and industry-ready quality. I provide updates when needed and remain open to feedback throughout the process to ensure the final result matches the client’s vision. As an artist and engineer, I understand both the creative and technical sides of music, which helps me deliver a sound that is both expressive and polished. Final files are delivered in high-quality formats ready for release.
