Interview with Sandro Bigger

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One of the projects I’m most proud of was creating groove-focused live drum recordings combined with modern production elements and programmed textures. My role included arranging and recording the drum parts while focusing on supporting the song musically and enhancing the overall feel of the production.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At the moment I’m focused on building modern groove-focused drum recordings and hybrid drum productions for artists and producers worldwide. I’m also developing creative live drum content for social media and modern music releases.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I enjoy combining both. Digital tools allow flexibility and speed, while live drums and organic playing bring human feel and emotion to a production.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: Professional communication, fast turnaround and groove-focused drum recordings that support the song naturally.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love bringing songs to life through groove and musicality. Every project has its own personality and I enjoy helping artists create something that feels real and alive.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Clients often ask how quickly I can deliver and whether revisions are possible. I usually deliver within 1–3 days and always include one free revision to make sure the drums fit the vision of the song.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: Many people think session drumming is mainly about technical playing, but for me it’s mostly about groove, feel and supporting the song musically.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I usually ask about the overall feel of the song, reference tracks, desired drum sound and whether the client prefers organic live drums, hybrid textures or more modern programmed elements.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Clear communication and good reference tracks always help create the best possible result. The more I understand the vision and feel of a song, the better I can support it musically.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: A drum kit, Logic Pro X, Roland SPD-SX Pro, a good pair of headphones and one reliable microphone.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I’ve been playing drums for many years as both a live and session musician, and I also work as a drum teacher in Switzerland. Over time I became increasingly interested in combining live drumming with modern production and hybrid drum recording.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Groove-focused, musical and modern. I like creating drum parts that feel natural, support the song and bring energy without overplaying.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I’d love to work with artists like RAYE or Tom Misch because I really connect with productions that combine groove, emotion and modern organic sound design.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Always focus on groove and feel before adding complexity. A simple part with strong timing and emotion will usually connect more than overplaying.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I mainly work on modern Pop, Indie Pop, Funk, R&B, Electronic and groove-focused productions. I enjoy combining organic live drums with modern production elements and programmed textures.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: My strongest skill is creating groove-focused drum parts with strong feel, timing and musicality that fit naturally into modern productions.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: I focus on groove, feel and supporting the song musically. My goal is never overplaying - I want the drums to add energy, movement and emotion while serving the production naturally.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: Clients usually send me a demo, rough mix or stems. I record live drums based on the song’s feel and direction, then deliver high-quality audio files with fast communication and turnaround. Revisions are always welcome if needed.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I work with a hybrid drum recording setup using Logic Pro X, Roland SPD-SX Pro and professional microphones including the Shure SM7B, Shure Beta 52A and Rode NT1. My focus is always delivering clean, groove-focused and production-ready drum tracks.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: I’m inspired by artists and musicians like RAYE, John Mayer, Vulfpeck, Tom Misch and modern producers who combine strong groove, musicality and organic feel with modern production.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I record live drum tracks and hybrid drum productions for artists and producers looking for real groove, feel and musicality. Most of my work is focused on modern Pop, Indie Pop, Funk, R&B and Electronic productions.
