Interview with Albert SQ
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Every artist I've had the chance to work with. So many records have great songs and solid recordings, but the mix doesn't do them justice — and that's exactly where I come in. With KOB, Ilsee, Rosett, Santtex, and Yaeluzzy, the goal was always the same: give great music the sound it deserves. That's the work I'm most proud of.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently mixing a new single for KOB, a reggaeton group I've been collaborating with closely. Always have multiple projects running at the same time.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet — I'm just getting started here. But I'm always open to building connections with other professionals on the platform.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Fully digital — and proud of it. I believe you can achieve world-class results ITB with the right tools and ears. That said, I have a deep respect for OTB summing and what it adds to a mix. The best of both worlds is always the goal.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Your vision, elevated. I won't change what makes your record yours — I'll just make it hit harder, sound cleaner, and translate everywhere.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The moment a mix clicks — when every element finds its place and the song finally breathes the way it was meant to. That moment never gets old after 14 years.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you make it sound like this reference?" — Yes, and I'll make it sound like you too. References guide the direction, but your identity stays intact.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing is just "turning up the volume." A great mix is surgical — it's about space, emotion, and making every element serve the song.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's the vibe you're going for? Do you have references? What do you love and hate about your rough mix? These three questions tell me everything I need to start.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to their previous work. A good mixer has a consistent sound across different artists. Also — communicate your vision clearly. The more context you give, the better the result.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop, Ableton, headphones, a hard drive full of samples, and good coffee. The mix must go on.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been producing and mixing music for over 14 years, starting at age 12. What began as a passion turned into a full professional career — I've built my own studio, worked with local and international clients, and developed a specialty in Latin Urban music that keeps growing.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Punchy, clear, and emotional. Big low end, clean mids, and vocals that feel alive — every mix built to hit hard and translate everywhere.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Bad Bunny — not just for the reach, but because his records are sonically fearless. Mixing at that level would push everything I know.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Trust your ears above everything. Meters are a tool for the end, not the process. Listen, compare with your references, and let your ears lead — they'll never lie if you train them right.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Latin Urban — reggaeton, afrobeat, trap latino, and everything in between.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Vocal treatment. Getting a vocal to sit perfectly in a Latin Urban mix — present, clean, and full of character — is where I shine.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Clarity, punch, and emotion. I make sure every element sits in its place — the vocals cut through, the low end hits hard, and the mix translates on any speaker, from club systems to phone earbuds.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Before starting, I send clients a detailed intake sheet requesting stems, reference tracks, and their rough mix. The rough mix helps me understand the artist's and producer's vision — dynamics, vibe, and any special vocal effects are sent pre-processed so I never stray from the original creative intent. From there I work independently through the full mix, then deliver the final mix, acapella, and live version. 3 rounds of revisions included to dial in the result.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Fully ITB (in the box) studio setup. Running Ableton Suite 12 with UAD, Waves, Slate Digital, and Valhalla processing. Monitoring on Yamaha HS5 with Audio-Technica ATH-M50x as primary reference, through an Apollo Solo USB interface. Acoustically treated room for accurate translation across all playback systems
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Jaycen Joshua, Josh Gudiwn, Rafferty Santiago
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
