Music production graduate specialising in eclectic and experimental pop music, capable of working within a variety of musical idioms and mixing for a variety of audio / visual media.
OCCLUD_ER (real name Cai Revell) is a Leeds-based music producer, mixing engineer and sound artist, with experience in the writing and performance of experimental pop music. Defined by a foregrounded eclecticism and versatility that lends itself to a wide range of services, I am competent working across a variety of musical styles and endeavour to respect the sonic trademarks that define you, as well as the hallmarks your listeners are conditioned to expect for an array of genres and media.
I have a BA in Music Production with Popular (Leeds Conservatoire) and years of classical vocal and choral training (Grade 8 - Distinction, LCM), rooting my practice in equal parts the playful, exploratory experimentalism of laptop and internet music as well as the theoretical and musical foundations of the classical world.
I primarily work remote and in my own setup, but can access studio space for a more impartial sound mixing environment and clean tracking when required.

Interview with OCCLUD_ER
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Pulling together mixes and masters of a close friend's back catalogue that never saw the light of day as a vault release before they move onto pastures greener. My old band also wish to submit our work to DSPs, so a remaster of that has been on the back burner for some time. I'm working on a game in my spare time, experimenting with spatial audio and the avenues for expression that can open for our youngest art form.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't be afraid to be specific and direct in your feedback! I care about the details and am here to serve your vision of the song, with as much particularity as you need.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop, a Focusrite Solo and SM7B, a set of headphones and a prayer.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a dedicated space for mixing and mastering out of monitors, but frequently work on the go, testing bounces across a variety of different speaker and headphone setups for the ideal outcome.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I find those who can fuse experimental sensibilities with the language of commerce the most fascinating. SOPHIE remains my guiding star.
