Hi! I’m Malena, a professional cellist with over 15 years of experience performing and recording in chamber music and a wide range of contemporary styles, including tango, singer-songwriter, and experimental projects.

I’ve recorded in some of Buenos Aires’ top studios, such as Fort, Moebio, and Woman Studio, and I bring that same level of quality to my own recording setup. I work with condenser microphones (including AT2020) to deliver warm, detailed, and studio-ready tracks.

Whether you need a single expressive line, layered cello textures, or full string arrangements, I focus on musicality, precision, and clear communication throughout the process. I’m comfortable working from written scores or creating parts by ear, always aiming to enhance your song with taste and intention.

Services that I offer:
- Cello Solo
- Violin solo
- Viola solo
- String Quartet
- Cello Choir
- String Section

Fast turnaround, reliable delivery, and a collaborative workflow are part of every project. Let’s bring your music to life. Let’s give your song the sound it deserves.

Interview with Malena Medone

  1. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  2. A: I usually work with artists, producers, and songwriters looking for expressive cello recordings that add depth, emotion, and character to their music. Most of my work includes creating layered cello arrangements, melodic lines, ambient textures, and cinematic accompaniments for indie, folk, pop, acoustic tunes. I focus on delivering recordings that feel organic, musical, and emotionally connected to each song, while maintaining clear communication and a smooth collaborative process from start to finish.

  3. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  4. A: Clients usually ask how much creative input I can provide, and whether I can help develop cello parts if they don’t already have written arrangements. The answer is yes — I’m very comfortable creating original parts based on the mood, production, or references they share. I’m also often asked about turnaround time and recording flexibility. I always try to adapt to the needs of the project while maintaining clear communication and high-quality recordings.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: One common misconception is that cello only belongs in classical music. In reality, it can adapt to many different musical worlds — from indie and cinematic productions to ambient, folk, experimental, and contemporary recordings. Another misconception is that recording strings remotely is a rigid process, when it can actually be very collaborative, creative, and flexible.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: I usually ask about the artistic direction of the project, the emotional atmosphere they’re looking for, and how they imagine the cello fitting into the song. I also like to know if they have musical references, arrangement ideas, or specific textures in mind. Understanding the creative vision from the beginning helps me deliver performances that feel natural, expressive, and truly connected to the music.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: I’d recommend looking for someone who not only has good sound quality, but also understands the emotional role the instrument should play in the music. Technical skill is important, but sensitivity, communication, and musical intuition can make a huge difference in the final result. Sharing references, moods, or even visual inspirations can also help create a more personal and meaningful collaboration.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: My cello, a good pair of headphones, a reliable audio interface, a condenser microphone, and a laptop with my recording session templates ready to go. Even on a desert island, I’d probably still end up layering ambient cello textures and recording ideas inspired by the ocean.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: My musical path has developed gradually over many years through performance, collaboration, and continuous artistic exploration. Although my work as a session musician has been somewhat intermittent over time, music and the cello have remained a constant part of my life and creative identity. Over the years, I’ve participated in different musical projects and performances, developing a strong sensitivity for arrangement, texture, and emotional expression. More recently, I’ve been focusing on expanding my remote recording work and collaborating with artists and producers through online platforms.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: My style blends expressive classical cello performance with contemporary, atmospheric production aesthetics. I’m drawn to intimate, emotional, and cinematic textures that support the song organically while adding depth and character.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: More than specific names, I’m interested in collaborating with artists who are open to experimentation, sensitivity, and building a strong emotional connection through sound.

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Clean recordings and well-organized sessions save a lot of time during production and help the creative process flow more naturally.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: I usually work on indie, folk, acoustic, cinematic, ambient, and alternative music, as well as projects that blend classical elements with contemporary production. I’m especially drawn to songs that value atmosphere, emotion, and organic textures.

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: I’m especially focused on musical sensitivity, translating that into performances that feel organic and meaningful.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I approach each project with both musicality and attention to detail, looking for the right balance between technical precision and emotional expression. I enjoy helping artists shape a unique sonic identity while keeping the collaboration fluid, creative, and professional. My goal is always to serve the music.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: My work process usually begins with a conversation about the artistic direction of the song — references, mood, arrangement ideas, and the emotional role the cello should play within the track. Once I understand the vision, I record and develop parts that support the music naturally, whether that means subtle textures, melodic lines, layered harmonies, or more cinematic arrangements. After recording, I carefully edit and organize the takes to deliver clean, high-quality audio files that are easy to integrate into the production. I always aim for clear communication, attention to detail, and a collaborative experience where the artist or producer feels supported throughout the process.

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: I record from my home studio using a carefully treated environment focused on capturing a warm, detailed, and intimate cello sound. My setup is designed for professional remote collaboration, allowing me to deliver clean, high-quality recordings ready for production, mixing, or further processing. My current setup includes an Audio-Technica AT2020 condenser microphone, a T-Bone Ovid System condenser microphone by Thomann, a PreSonus AudioBox audio interface, and ADAM Audio T5V studio monitors.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: I’m inspired by artists and producers who combine emotional depth with a strong sonic identity. I especially admire composers who blend acoustic instruments with modern production in creative ways. especially those who use strings not just as accompaniment, but as an emotional voice within the song.
