Someone who gives you The Best, Immediately! Having produced & mixed Chaka Khan & produced for Roberta Flack among multiple Indi-Artist, My Contribution is my Ear with the Skill & Tools to execute a sound delivery of undeniable Quality-Feel. All custom to Your request and in over-prompt turn-around time.
I'm in love with what I do! Though I'm known as a celebrity actor (7th Heaven, The Temptations, Set It Off, Sister, Sister..., along that career was a music man producing/mixing/mastering the works of Jeremy Lubbock, Paul Jackson Jr., Chaka Khan and other, more Indi-Artist. My work has been an everyday-play on The Steve Harvey Morning Show and there is plenty more where that came from. Now that our music industry protocol has changed so much, it's time I take the opportunity to open my contribution much more and on platforms to collaborate. I customize my contribution to Your request, making what you give me, take on its best expression. Again, I'm in love with what I do. Though I can sit and enjoy fiddling with the mix and master all day, it is my goal and ability to get you ready to use it ASAP! As I like to say, "Let's Get To Work"!

Interview with Chaz Shepherd
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: All of my Albums as Artist (role of Writer, Producer, Artist, Mixing and Mastering Engineer), as I get to do almost all I do with those and the producing of Chaka Khan on a single.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Production for sync licensing and writing and arranging for stage.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Probably, yet I've not gone through the roster.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both because the fullness of Analog is still the greatest deliverer of that and digital gives a seemingly limitless ability to expand on everything.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Excellence.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Sharing this sensational feeling!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How much. My answer is also a question.. "how much do you already have budgeted for the service your requesting".
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That we can work with more than they give us ( though I can, if I can redo what doesn't work.. ha).
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your desired outcome.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Share, yet Trust.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Kronos, MacBook Pro, soundcard, Neumann U87 and headphones. Of course I'd need all of the connecting chords including the sustain pedal.. ha.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My path started as a young boy in my bedroom over 35 years ago with my Casio keyboard the first night my dear mother bought it for me. It has grown from bedroom to corner over the years, into studio with music sensation, Joel Whitley and then studio with Dave Pensado and Jaycen Joshua. Since, I've become expert in all the creative areas of production and now deliver nothing but excellence in whatever creative capacity I contribute.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Soulful.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Robert Glasper because his balance of choices, skill and quality are sensational and there is room to fly in expression within his production. Raphael Saadiq is production master. He is of my favorite ever and one of the most classic producers of all time. I can't imagine walking away from a session with anything less than greatness with him.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always choose Feeling with Quality.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: RnB, Soul, Hip Hop, Pop and Gospel
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Feeling. Because I am an expert in delivering in all 6 creative areas of production, I choose to answer with the word "feeling" because that's what's undeniable in all my contribution.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Classic contribution. Whatever area of production I am serving in will always be and feel good, not just for the following 6 months.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process is custom to who I work with. I am not stubborn to "my way or no way" because we cannot get the best for the project "that way". My personal process is very swift and my decisions are based on "feel and quality".
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I am, as we say, "in the box". This means, most of what I use is in the computer. The studio Looks nice and even feels nice, yet I use what most professionals use, even in the studio. Most my vocal work is done on a Neumann.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Quincy Jones, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, D'Angelo, Raphael Saadiq, Dave Pensado, Jean Marie Horvat, Rodney Jerkins, Dre Dre
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Everything from writing, producing, engineering, backround vocals, mixing and mastering.
