Interview with Mark Miracle

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm in a Jazz band focusing on original instrumentals. The band consists of acoustic guitar, mandolin, electric bass and full drums...fun stuff!

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: When clients hear the mandolin in their music. They typically don't expect what they hear and what it brings, whether it's just rhythmic chords or lead/solos.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Know what it is you are wanting, but be open to input from me if direction is uncertain. The mandolin is not a common addition to some music but it can be just the right touch.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: My style is rooted in Bluegrass, but years of performing and recording with artists in several genres has developed my skills in my approach to the mandolin.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Sometimes less is more and don't overplayed the take.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Americana, Bluegrass, Country, Jazz, Singer/songwriter (solo artist, duets, full band)

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: I have a wide and diverse approach to the mandolin and can find the "spot" in the music that best suits the mandolin accompaniment as per the clients needs.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I have years of experience collaborating with artists for album tracks or live performance. My approach is genre specific and diverse.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I typically will receive a reference track(s) from the client (mp3s for ease of emailing) and will converse with the client for ideas and direction. I will typically email takes to the client to establish a feel for the song. Final take will be via a file transfer site (Cloud or Drive) as a .wav at the clients format preference.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I have a small home studio in an isolated environment in the Arizona desert. Mac based DAW, Pro level mics and isolation.
