Interview with Maurizio
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Appearances of the Continuous, the theme is the sinuous alternation of a long and deep breath, nothing is left to chance. The pieces follow one another systematically, highlighting the apparent isolation of the observer and the observed. An invitation to disconnect from artificial networks to seek the nostalgic original continuity interrupted by a static perceptual illusion. Everything is actually part of an evolving analog continuum, even when one has the sensation of having arrived at the place defined as The Curtain of Solitude. An uncontaminated, yet fertile territory, where thought becomes sound and sound becomes consciousness. In this project, with expanded timbres, only the use of electronic instruments played live without the support of multitrack was considered, and simultaneously recorded digitally. A characteristic that instantly makes an idea always repeatable, never the same. Appearances of the continuo, fragments of continuity. Frames of our lived experience, suspended and frozen impressions that feed our senses in discontinuous forms to fill the void, a common thread and constant unconditional presence, fragments that do not linger in moments of solitude and inner silence. Primordial vibration that awaits guidance and shared orientation without breaks in its being perceived and led into a renewed manifestation.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Persuaded by a silent listening, I bid farewell to the unpredictable, to a perception beyond the usual. However, I have never been able to give up traditions and renewal; both belong to me and require a mutual dialogue. To transcend from pre-established forms to new unexplored atmospheres is arduous verticality, little matters if the gaze is directed toward the sky. I believe that music should be interpreted as a natural and nostalgic call toward an era to come. The wave that awaits requires an openness to be welcomed. Finally oriented toward only digital composition, I now feel the need for a natural return parallel to the origins. I have chosen the accordion as an organic instrument that is well-suited to express this hybrid feeling. The sound, fueled by the breath of the bellows, seeks in becoming the forgotten spirit to which our hearts yearn. An acoustic-electronic dialogue, at times retro-futuristic and in continuous metamorphosis.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Music as a sequential projection of an absolute unmanifested feeling that awaits its trace. Traditional training, then the path progressively extends to new sound explorations with ample space for the multiple technological possibilities. Electronic instruments, samplers, drum machines, analog and virtual synthesizers, acoustic, electro-acoustic and digital accordion, applications for audio production, programming, and assisted recording. I define myself as a "sound craftsman" immersed in my creative space. Machines in the service of artistic productivity and not the other way around.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: From concept to recording, finalization, and audio distribution. Contemporary creativity with a philosophical and humanistic approach. Acoustic and analog and digital electronic synthesis coexist in projects that arise from the meeting between structured composition and spontaneity, in a modular space where research becomes experience. Every traditional instrument can transcend its nature, generating innovative and unexpected performances. The sounds interact with multimedia languages, exploring the relationship between music and man in a path of individual growth. The metamorphoses of sound become words in a silent song. Man at the center and the center in man.
