Interview with André Marques
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m especially proud of a cinematic suspense track I produced, mixed and mastered from start to finish. My role involved the full process, focusing on atmosphere, clarity and emotional impact. It stands out to me because it shows my ability to turn a simple idea into a polished and immersive final production.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently focused on vocal production and mixing for independent artists, while also creating new cinematic and music production samples to expand my portfolio. At the same time, I’m constantly improving my workflow to deliver cleaner, more polished and professional results with every project.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I’m currently focused on my own work, but I highly respect the talent on SoundBetter. If needed, I’m always open to recommending the right professional to ensure the best result for the project.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital for precision, analog for character. I work mainly in the digital domain to ensure accuracy and efficiency, but my approach is always focused on achieving warmth, depth and a natural feel inspired by analog sound.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is simple: to elevate your sound with clarity, precision and emotion. I’m committed to delivering professional results, clear communication and a final product you’re truly confident in.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I enjoy most is turning ideas into emotion through sound. Helping artists transform raw recordings into something polished and impactful — especially when working with vocals — is what drives me. For me, it’s not just about audio, it’s about creating something that connects with people.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Here are some of the most common questions clients ask me: 1. Can you make my vocals sound professional? Yes — I focus on delivering clean, natural and polished vocals through precise tuning, timing and mixing, while preserving your unique tone and emotion. 2. What do you need to get started? I usually need your raw audio files (preferably WAV), along with any references and a brief description of your vision for the track. 3. Can I hear a sample before committing? Yes — I can provide a short demo so you can hear the quality of my work before moving forward. 4. How long does the process take? It depends on the project, but most vocal tuning and mixing work is delivered within a few days. 5. Do you offer revisions? Absolutely — I work closely with clients and offer revisions to ensure you’re fully satisfied with the final result.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people think music production is just about adding effects or “fixing” a track. In reality, it’s about shaping the sound, preserving emotion and making intentional decisions that elevate the entire song. It’s not just technical work — it’s creative and artistic at its core.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I focus on understanding the client’s vision, references, technical requirements and deadlines. I also ask about recording quality and specific areas of concern, so I can tailor my approach and deliver the most polished and professional result possible.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Choose someone who understands your vision, not just your budget. Clear communication, attention to detail and the ability to deliver natural, professional sound are key. Always ask for samples or a short demo — the right producer will focus on bringing out the best in your music, not just finishing the job.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I’d keep it simple and creative: a laptop running Pro Tools or FL Studio, high-quality headphones, a compact audio interface, a MIDI controller and a condenser microphone. With just these tools, I could still create, record and shape a full production — proving that great sound comes from ideas and execution, not just gear.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been involved in music for over 14 years, starting as a professional musician and naturally evolving into music production at an early age. During my teenage years, I began exploring tools like Audacity and FL Studio, which laid the foundation for my technical and creative development. Over the years, I’ve refined my expertise in vocal production, mixing and audio enhancement, working closely with independent artists to shape clean, expressive and professional-quality sound. My background as a musician gives me a deeper understanding of performance and emotion, allowing me to approach each project with both technical precision and artistic intention. Today, my focus is on delivering polished, industry-ready results that elevate the artist’s vision and connect with listeners.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is modern, detailed and emotionally focused. I combine clean and precise vocal production with a strong sense of space and atmosphere, creating mixes that feel both intimate and cinematic. The result is a polished, immersive sound that enhances the artist’s identity while maintaining a professional, industry-ready quality.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with artists like Billie Eilish and composers like Hans Zimmer. I’m inspired by productions that combine strong emotional impact with detailed sound design and clean, intimate vocals. Billie Eilish’s minimalist and vocal-focused style aligns with my approach to vocal tuning and clarity, while Hans Zimmer’s cinematic sound inspires me to create depth, atmosphere and intensity in a mix. I believe combining these elements allows me to deliver music that feels both modern and immersive.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: A great mix starts with balance, not plugins. Before using EQ or compression, make sure your levels and panning are right — this alone can dramatically improve clarity and overall sound quality.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mainly work on vocal-driven productions, with a strong focus on independent and original artists. I have solid experience working with gospel vocals, where emotion, clarity and balance are essential. At the same time, I’m versatile and able to adapt my approach to different styles, always aiming for a polished and professional sound.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is vocal tuning and enhancement. I specialize in delivering clean, natural and professional-sounding vocals that elevate the entire track while preserving the artist’s unique character.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a professional, detail-oriented approach that elevates every song to a competitive level. My focus is on enhancing the artist’s vision while delivering clarity, depth and emotional impact. Through precise vocal tuning, advanced mixing techniques and careful attention to every detail, I ensure the final result sounds polished, cohesive and ready for release. I don’t just process audio — I help shape a sound that connects with listeners and stands out.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: 1. Understanding the project I start by discussing the client’s vision, references and expectations to ensure I fully understand the desired sound. 2. Initial processing I clean and prepare the audio, including noise reduction, editing and session organization. 3. Core work Depending on the project, I apply vocal tuning, timing alignment, mixing and audio enhancement to achieve clarity, balance and a professional sound. 4. Review & refinement I carefully review the track, making detailed adjustments to ensure everything sounds natural and polished. 5. Delivery & revisions I deliver the final version and offer revisions if needed, making sure the client is fully satisfied with the result.**
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I operate from a dedicated home studio designed for professional audio production. Using industry-standard DAWs like FL Studio, REAPER and Pro Tools, I focus on delivering clean, balanced and polished results. My workflow is optimized for vocal tuning, mixing and audio enhancement, ensuring clarity, precision and a competitive sound quality.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists and producers who create strong atmosphere and emotional impact in their music, such as Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor, and Finneas O'Connell. I also admire modern producers who focus on clarity, minimalism and vocal detail, constantly pushing the quality of contemporary sound.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
