I am a professional Mixing and Recording Engineer based in Santa Barbara, California, with experience in both studio recording and live sound environments. My work includes assisting with session setup, microphone placement, signal routing, editing, and supporting recording workflows in a professional studio setting.

Alongside studio work, I also take on live sound projects, which has helped me develop strong troubleshooting skills, critical listening, and the ability to adapt quickly in real-time audio situations. I am especially interested in mixing projects closely with the client in order to realize their vision for the song, while still keeping to my own personal standards of mixing.

My goal is to continue growing as an engineer by working across a variety of projects and musical genres, improving my technical abilities, and contributing to recordings so that they come out to the standards of the client.

Interview with Lucas Irwin

Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I like a mix of both, both digital and analog gear have their plusses and minuses. Currently, I work purely with digital however as I upgrade my studio I want to bring analog pieces of equipment into my rotation as well.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I am a big fan of the mixing from classic rock era songs, so I like to try to bring that vibe to my mixing, but I also have many influences from more recent artists that I like to incorporate into my mixing style.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically, I will listen to the song and find the aspects that I think need immediate work. Then I'll send that rough mix to the client to get their initial impressions, and receive any feedback the client might have. Then I would listen to the rough mix in full and go through the process of mixing all the smaller aspects that I think need to be tweaked, and once that mix has been finished, I send it off to the client to get their final impressions and revise as needed.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My current studio setup is on the smaller side, but I am slowly upgrading it piece by piece. Currently, the nicest gear that I have would be my ATC scm25a speakers and my Neumann mt48 interface.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently, I'm working on songs from smaller artists around my area.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Typically I work on rock, indie, and soft rock. However, I have worked on electronic, rap, and R&B songs before. I also don't like to limit myself to any specific genres so I am willing to work on any styles of music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I am a good communicator, and like to work closely with the artists to realize their artistic visions. I also hold myself to a very high standard of mixing to bring out the bets that I can in the music.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Pink Floyd is my biggest inspiration for music and mixing. However, I do also take inspiration from Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, The Alan Parsons Project, Steely Dan, D'angelo, Soundgarden, and Tame Impala among other artists
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work that I do is either mixing or recording.
