Asheville, NC based engineer offering mixing, mastering and production services. The challenge of deeply listening to anything is a puzzle that invites the listener in to connect with the world around them. I love to use my skills to elevate and compliment the music of great writers so that connection grows stronger with their audience.
I've got roughly 10 years of experience working in music production. I graduated from Berklee completing the Electronic Production and Design major in 2014, and then moved to Asheville, NC. I was so inspired by the great community of musicians here and fell in love with the idea of making records. I was and still am chasing the goal of enhancing the songs so that they had more purpose and delivered more effectively. Like mindfulness or meditation, it is a practice that continuously rewards the pursuer which has no true destination or end. Every song is its own journey. I love it.
Specifically on here I would like to advertise my skills as a mixing or mastering engineer here, as those are easier for me to accomplish remotely. I am also posting my availability as a producer, but this will be more difficult to achieve logistically. My main goal is to collaborate with you to make the absolute best version of whatever comes my way, and the only way to do that effectively is to communicate well.
For the technical side of things, I work mostly on the computer but have a love for analog electronics. I won't shy away from coloring things if there can be a compelling story to be told by it. As long as I can deliver a sound that enhances, underscores, compliments, derails, supports, contrasts... etc, it doesn't really matter to me how it is achieved.
Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Endorse Mike H. JohnsonMike is the full package. I've had the privilege of working with him on many occasions and I have only grown more impressed by his ability to communicate with music. His fluency is a blend of natural talent and years of dedication to his craft. That balance between technical skill, creativity, and sensitivity shines through in everything he touches while supporting the vision of the artist. It is just as rewarding to work with him in studio as it is to listen to his final product. I highly recommend working with Mike Johnson, a gem.
Mike embodies a rare combination of extreme technical proficiency with a beautiful musical sensitivity. I’ve had the pleasure of working with him in several different capacities - producer, engineer, instrumentalist, sound designer, mix engineer. I could write a separate review for each facet of Mike’s abilities. Suffice it to say, Mike is a just a wonderful musician. Whether he is manning the computer, designing a synth patch, or laying down some pedal steel the through-line is his commitment to serve the art being made. Mike is a worker, and his example elevates.
Mike is my go-to person for recording. He brings so much musicality to everything he does. I’ve had him produce, engineer, mix, and perform on various recordings of mine and he consistently makes the songs greater than I ever could have imagined myself. He also has an awesome recording studio in Asheville which is full of creative energy and is resonantly priced.
