I'm a mixing engineer and session bassist working from a professional studio in Cologne, Germany (studio details: nummerdrei.com). My experience on both sides of the production process enables me to support the artist's vision and focus on what the song really needs.

As a mixer, I aim for modern, punchy mixes that translate well across systems. I often work with guitar-driven music as well as pop and indie productions, focusing on clarity, energy and making sure vocals sit right while the band stays powerful and cohesive. All mixing is done in a professional studio environment with accurate monitoring and high-end equipment.

As a bassist, my experience across multiple genres helps me find the right part for the song — whether that's a simple supportive line or something more melodic.
Bass tracks are recorded through a high-end studio signal chain, delivering high-quality recordings that drop easily into modern productions. You'll always receive DI tracks for maximum flexibility, with amp tones available when the track calls for it.
Moog Bass can also be provided.
I can also record real bass tracks for your production before mixing, giving your track more depth and "life" than programmed bass.

Interview with Dominik Ehrl

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: You can have a look at nummerdrei.com — it's an inspiring place with a fantastic control room. Everything is set up for a fast workflow that helps keep you "in the zone". Monitoring is through ATC SCM100 speakers, which allow me to laser-focus on any detail in the mix and make confident decisions. My main basses are a 1971 Fender Precision and a 2016 Fender American Jazz Bass with EMG pickups, both perfectly set up and always ready to go. I can also provide more off-the-charts tones with a Höfner bass or a fretless Fender Jazz Bass if you're looking for something different. Bass is always recorded with a DI signal (through Avalon, Chandler or Universal Audio preamps, depending on the vibe), and I can provide an amp track as well if the production calls for it.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Check polarities not only on multi-mic'd sources — especially in the low end.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I love all kinds of music, and luckily my professional work life is just as diverse. As a bassist I work across genres including jazz, soul (check out Becky Sikasa), pop and rock. My production and mixing work often focuses on band-based music — frequently guitar-driven — always aiming to capture the essence and energy of a live performance, whatever the genre.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Big ears and lots of experience. Working professionally on both sides of the production process allows me to understand what a song really needs. My goal is always to help your song sound like a finished record while fully respecting your artistic vision.
